Dandy Don has a link to an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constituion that has an interesting statement about this year's class vs. last year's :

    SUPER START

With more than a month to go until national signing day, LSU has commitments from eight Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100 prospects. That's five more than the Tigers landed a year ago.

I think its more of a talent pool issue than anything else. This year is strong for our recruiting because many LSU fans/kids are available. While I think Miles and Co. have done a very good job keeping those players who want and should be going to LSU, it would be pretty hard to screw up recruiting as the LSU coaching staff at this point in time.

So you don't think it should be commended for our staff to go in UGA's backyard and come out with multiple Deep South 100 and/or Rivals top 200 players?? I didn't know that there were so many Georgia, Mississippi or Texas kids that are "fans" and "should be going to LSU"?

..and of our 21 recruits, ONLY 9 are from Louisiana....

Stupid post. Clearly (and Mike Scarborough has said as much) the state of La. is down this year. 50% of the players are from out of state.

the good news is that from the way I understand, the state will be doing REALLY well next year in terms of talent...

We will need to do well too, b/c this year we lost beef, next year we lose skill

It's top heavy next year, which is good for us. There should be 8-10 super prospects, but there isn't much depth, which is bad news for teams like Ole Miss and Auburn who try to come in and pick up our leftovers. The bad news is the top guy in the state (McKnight) is probably headed out west.

No question they have done a good job. I said they did but many of these out of state kids attended our camps and have been on the LSU radar even before Miles got here.

On the other hand, I wonder about some of these out of state guys. At least one, J.D. Lott, got his lunch eaten this year by one of the Bammer O-line recruits, David Ross from Homewood. Word from his school is that nobody offered Lott except LSU and he jumped at the offer. He's a good kid from a great school (Briarwood Christian in B'ham) but he got waxed up and down the field the night I saw him. I was surprised we offered the kid.

Lott had offers from Vandy and Southern Miss. And don't give me crap about him "getting his lunch eaten this year by one of the Bammer O-line recruits" because we recruited him to play TE/H-back--a position that he dominated at during summer camps. In high school, he played both ways like any good recruit and the fact of the matter is that he's NOT a good DE....which is why we DIDN'T offer him AS a DE.

I watched the Bama/LSU game at a friend's apartment in Tuscaloosa and his g/f's dad was close to the Briarwood program. They told me that LSU got a steal in JD Lott, in that he was the best player on Briarwood and that he was underutilized. Take it for what it's worth.
