I don't think we are losing, I don't see how we could be against 30k ragheads who drive around in 85 Mitsubishi pickups shooting 20 year old Kalashnikovs. But I think what this says is its not all sunshine and cinnamon.
We're not losing. Just not winning as big as Obama would like to take credit for. Of course we could take them all out with a wave of bombers but that would cause a lot of collateral damage. An old saying from Vietnam was "We had to destroy the village in order to save it."
They are driving around in Humvees and other US equipment abandoned by Iraqis when the various cities fell. They have also used Mustard Gas. A 20 year old Kalashnikov is still a great field / desert weapon.
They are driving around in Toyota pickups because they can't maintain Humvees and armored vehicles worth a shit. They have no anti-aircraft capability, no reconnaissance, no mobility, and no sophisticated weaponry. Beyond mortars, RPG's, IED's, and heavy machine guns, they have only irregular light infantry with AK-47's. They have no allies, no logistics, no economy, no air force, and they are landlocked with no easy source of fuel, supplies, munitions, and recruits. They have picked fights with the Iraqis, the Kurds, the Jordanians, the Syrians, and now with their last neighbor Turkey. Did I mention that they have taunted the Superpower into a sustained air campaign against them? Now they have pissed off Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States where we are training what few non-jihadists Syrian rebels we can find. The goddamn Russians and the Chinese won't touch ISIS with a 10-foot Chechen. Even Iran is against them and have flown fucking air strikes in obsolete old American Phantoms. ISIS managed to alienate Al Qaeda! The Arab League denigrates them and they can't agree on which way is up. Now they have destroyed world heritage sites, which have enraged the Peacenik Europeans who aren't particularly happy with their influx of a hundred thousand starving muslim refugees either. We will see NATO start piling on ISIS to end this charade soon. ISIS got nobody to lean on. Nooooooo body. ISIS is on the decline. They aren't taking new territory, they are losing it. They are getting weaker and low on everything. It will only get worse for them. We need to just let them get weaker and weaker before getting this done with as few casualties as possible. Which means the locals have to start doing their own dirty work. Jordan has stepped up, Iraq has stepped up, the Kurds are showing everybody how it has to be done. The Saudis have to be relevant for once. If Turkey ever gets its shit together, it will all be over quickly.

I would love to put some of the posters in MOPP 4 in the middle of summer in Louisiana to unscramble their brains.
