ESPN - Miles not ready to shuffle offense

Linked above is an interesting article on how Les Miles views LSU's current offensive woes. The article essentially reemphasizes Les Miles' refusal to make any offensive changes.

A few of the main points discussed in the article are potential changes in offensive personnel as well as the likelihood of seeing another quarterback. You can likely envision the way in which Les responds to these inquires. Another interesting portion of the article occurs when Les discusses the red zone play calls just before the half. Regarding those key offensive play calls, Miles said "that while not necessarily by his design, [they] were discussed and agreed upon by Miles before the game". I take that as Miles reaffirming that he did in fact directly pick the plays as well as once again confirming that he has his grubby mitts all over this offense.

How do you interpret this statement by Miles? What do you all gather from the article?

Nothing that we don't already know. Miles isn't going to make wholesale changes in midseason. Plus, he's not going to give anything away that our opponents can use in the games to come.

What's to interpret? He didn't pick the plays. He just agreed to them. Are you dizzy from your own spin yet?

Sure he does. He submits which plays can be run. Fat boy picks from a variation of those 5 plays.

Miles has said time and time again that he is involved with offensive game planning. He's the friggin' head coach, there ain't one out there who isn't involved in his offense and defense. He has also said time and time again, that the plays are called in the pressbox. I don't know what else a person can make from Les' statement other than he wasn't happy with Studs play calling in the red zone.

Miles second-guessed some play calls against Florida, specifically two passes called after LSU had first-and-goal at the Florida 7 shortly before halftime. On a second-and-goal, roll-out, play-action pass designed for fullback Connor Neighbors, the play was covered and quarterback Zach Mettenberger threw it away. On third down, the Tigers tried a gadget play, pitching it to little-used running back Terrance Magee on a play that was designed for him to throw a jump pass.

But the receiver was again covered and Magee plunged into the line as LSU settled for the field goal and a 6-0 halftime lead.

Miles didn't throw Studrawa under the bus, saying the goal-line plays, while not necessarily by his design, were discussed and agreed upon by Miles before the game.

"I wish we had dialed up some different plays just before half when we got the ball down on the 7-yard line," Miles said. "Certainly I think we could have picked some better things."
