I just finished watching this weeks program. Why did they cancel the show after 31 years? Did the NFL Network kill it? Either way I loved that show with the NFL Films clips.
I read HBO nixed it, actually. They said some other network will likely pick it up. If I had to guess, I'd say probably the evil empire (NFL Network). I guess it's better them than ESPN, because lord knows they'd ruin it.
That doesn't surprise me since they have moved away from a lot of their sports programming due to specialty sports channels. Do you know if they plan on keeping the same cast? It seemed like they didn't know since they were saying they would try to keep in touch with each other.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/2008-02-06-3063546697_x.htm Nothing new. I guess the new station would determine that. I loved the show, too. I personally wouldn't want them to change anything. I hope they get picked up by like Spike or something, where they can still be up-front and honest, unlike the typical media show where talking heads say a lot of words that mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.
I'm surprised it has lasted this long. It started going downhill with marino and was downright unwatchable when costa took over. Now let me specifically state that the work that Sabol and the crew at NFL Films did for this show was always spectacular, but hbo has consistently changed the show away from highlights and analysis towards human interest stories to the point that for the last few seasons they didn't even talk about the full slate of games, telling us to go to their website for that instead. Shamefully, there is not a show on NFLnet that is just the nfl films highlight reels (nfl replay has the footage but not that facenda "voice-of-god" voiceover)
