The entire idea of a subsidy is to create the incentive that otherwise would not have existed. Think of green energy and makin it more affordable to do business.

When implemented correctly, it can help our economy.

Welfare is not a subsidy as it creates no incentive. You only receive it for being poor. There is nothing to gain from making a dollar more than the poverty line.

I agree that subsidies play an important role. But they should have a defined period and understood to be a short term incentive - not an automatically renewing grant.

When farmers get paid millions to not grow crops it's time for the payments to stop.

Well, there are reasons for that. It would take some time to discuss, and yes it is abused to some extent, but there are good reasons you don't want all farmers growing.

Farm subsidies, in this day and age, are vote buying just like the Obama cellphones! Just a different target. I lived in IOWA, it is ridiculous, and it is the large corporations that make most of the subsidy money. Not the guy with the pitchfork!

I've always liked that song. Looks like ol Johnny boy has turned a different leaf. He used to be a flaming liberal and probably still is but apparently not enough for the folks in the north east.
