Conferences don't win national titles, teams do. If USC wins a title, does that mean the PAC 10 was the best conference?

My comments were regarding the perception that there was "no depth" in the Big Ten... and the record of play in the CapOne, Outback, and Music City (which used to be a Big Ten/SEC thingy) would suggest that other teams besides OSU can also play the game and can do it on a regular basis.

If what you are saying was true about National titles proving league superiority, then you would also have great records in the other New Year bowls.... and there is simply no proof to support that logic.

And to the comment of what is "going to the BCS", I'm talking about teams getting BCS bids and how it could affect the slotting for other bowls outside the BCS. The Big Ten has sent two teams in 98, 99, 02, 03, 05, 06 and 07. The SEC has had two in 98, 99, 01, 06 and 07. This affects who has been in the CapOne, Outback and Cotton, that's all.

Most of the larger bowls are in the South and those bowls are traditionally more regional than most deserving. That's why a 10-2 Wisconsin, for example, can play an 8-4 Tennessee in the Outback, even though a more deserving Ole Miss or LSU or Arkansas is playing elsewhere.

Referring to the above in bold. No they will NOT all go to a BCS bowl this season. There are only 5 BCS bowls a season and each conference is limited to a max of 2. Alabama and Florida will get BCS bids. LSU and Georgia won't even sniff BCS bids and I'm not sure why you listed Tennessee. They are a pathetic excuse for a football team this year (right alongside of Michigan).

Hawkeye is talking about the depth of the conferences and rosters. You are arguing back that the cream at the top was better the last two years. You're not debating the point that was made you are making your own point which no one is disputing.

To go back to depth the SEC had a 39 player advantage over the Big 10 last season on NFL rosters. This seems like a clear cut margin until you factor in the fact that the SEC has 12 teams and the Big 10 has 11 (I know, I know). When this is factored in the SEC has a whopping 0.7 players per team advantage over the Big Ten. This is not a sustantial or significant margin.

I know this... I misunderstood his post, I was saying all of those teams have BEEN in very recent years, and Alabama will be another added to the list this season.

This is simply not true. The match ups since the BCS selections in 1998 have slotted teams quite evenly versus their record with few exceptions.

Yes, the SEC has had six different teams go to BCS bowls. The Big Ten has had seven... fairly impressive for both conferences... and agreed, you guys have done better when you got there... no argument!

Wasn't trying to flame bro, I used to live within about 30 miles of Iowa City, seen numerous games in Kinnick Stadium... I've been forced to watch (local tv listings up there) more then my fair share of Big 10 ball... was pretty fond of the hawks. Just finally glad to be back in SEC country.
