We're talking about Kevin Steele being a better defensive coordinator than Chavis? Really??? We shall see...

I don't think it is outside of the realm of possibility. I'm more concerned with style of play, if Steele sits back and lets the position coaches do their thing then I believe it has a chance. The DB's are good enough to handle 1 on 1 coverage as long as the DL can get after the QB.

Steele isn't the hire I would have made, but I think this could work.

Steele can win on our talent alone for two years. After that, we will see if he can coach.

I may be missing something, but I don't see your logic. Are you saying that we will stop recruiting top defensive talent? Steele is suppose to be a top recruiter and so is Coach O. If anything, I'm expecting LSU to do an even better job of attracting top defensive talent in the years to come.

I believe 100% we will recruit well and continue to do so. Talent level will be high. But coaching that talent is a different issue. The knock on Steele is that he is not a great game day coach. Time will tell if he can really coach a defense. My opinion is that in the short term we will be ok, but long term he will need to be better than he was at Clemson.
