Exactly. I think that sums it up nicely. I think all those neurons were firing off and it was hurting Miles' head. He wanted it all to just go away.
Lol. If Islstl was coaching this team we'd be 0-12. Islstl didn't even realize it was 4th down... he thought we had two plays left. And this guy is calling Miles dumb.
Chad Jones name was not called once in that game. That's the last thing you want from your free safety. Well it did get called once when he made a horrendous attempt at a blow to the receiver over the middle of the field and only hurt himself in the process. We must get some impact plays out of this kid on a consistent basis. Georgia had it on their 40 and would have had only 1 play left. They would not have tried to do anything after getting only 49 yards at the half. I do agree about the kick getting blocked. I would list that as the 3rd best option after A) trying to get a first down and closer in for a FG and B) throwing it into the endzone.
Run the ball, get a few yards to put us in more comfortable range for the FG kicker, THEN try what you suggest. If we get it to be in the 45 yard range, we can afford a sack to make it a 55 yard kick. If you are already at 55 yards and take a sack... Good call IMHO.
Not to bring Twitter up... But I tweeted (is that the verb?) at this point in the game "Les Miles is going to fire himself" when the half ended the way it did. And you wouldn't BELIEVE the amount of frustration I got back in response. People were asking me if I'd ever coached, etc. I never said anything other than the fact that the man CANNOT manage a clock to save his life. I think he's a great man and a good coach, but he can't, and the team was visibly confused as a result. When the team is confused, you are not doing your job as coach. End of story. That doesn't mean that I'm no longer a Miles supporter, I just wonder what part of his game plan or the coaching staff isn't working when it comes down to the clock management phase of the game.
The articles I've read this AM say a pass play WAS called by the coaches but JJ talked 'em out of it. Our clock management skills aren't the greatest and if Scott gets stopped for no gain who knows what happens. Bottom line we got the W and that's all that matters.
I don't think it's a case he isn't smart enough to be able to manage the clock effectively (although you would have a hard time convincing a lot of people against that), I think he just hates that aspect of the game and doesn't put any thought into it because of his disdain for it. It's like anything in life, if you don't like doing it and you're "forced" to do it, you probably wont be good at it.
Yes he has a kick of 52 yards. I like Jasper as a kicker but still in all you dont put all your eggs on a 50 yard field goal. You have to play to win and go down the field to try to make the kick a bit closer. When you get it closer, then you run down the clock. How many times do we see conservative play come back to bite you on the a$$? More times than not. It all worked out in the end but I dont like playing for a long field goal to win it all.
