Crowton is less at fault for this trainwreck than most of you will admit. Now him and Miles tug of war has a good bit to do with it, but I don't really blame him for wanting to run the offense.
Re: I'm climing up onto the ledge I don't think you can start a tug-o-war during the season, but you can make suggestions. Miles did the right thing after last season, I'm willing to wait and see what he does after this one. However just like last year with the D there are no excuses for the way things are going on O this year. Some thing drastic needs to be done and some assistants need to go. If Crowton doesn't come up with a new game plan and make wholesale changes he needs to go too.
Believe what you want to, but Crowton has been running the offense this year. That said, today is all on CLM. I have been a 'realist' about CLM and the difficulties the team has faced the past few years since the loss of RP, but today was all on CLM...no excuses.
Re: I'm climing up onto the ledge I'm not suggesting that he step in and take over on the respective units. Lord knows the man isn't enough of an X's & O's guy to do that. But, as the head coach, it is his job to confront the coordinators when problems arise and strategize how they will be fixed or at least mitigated. I really don't think that's happening because our problems never seem to become remedied as the season progresses. Instead, they spiral out of control and the coordinator either leaves (Jimbo, Pelini) or gets fired (Malveeto).
i agree with this post 100%. i thought no matter what happened miles could not get fired until 2011. now i think today may have erased that year of leeway and will have to deliver next year. and by that i mean at least the SEC west. at least. it's a shame, i like the guy and have defended him many times maybe overlooking some of his weaknesses but this game was a different story. it's one thing when a college kid fails to execute it's another thing when a coach botches a coaching 101 skill and kills the efforts of his players in the process.
Re: I'm climing up onto the ledge I watched Arkansas this afternoon and we aren't going to beat them. Miles has to go and he can take Crowton with him to wherever. Our coaching staff stinks from the top down.
I also agree with this. I have been a Miles apologist from day one. But that display of abject stupidity this evening defies apology. Never mind that the playcalling on that last drive was very poor when we got into field goal range. How on EARTH does a staff let 20 seconds tick off the clock on 3rd down before calling timeout, then HOW do they NOT have the fg unit ready? How does that happen? I'm with others who are wondering whether or not Miles can ever recover his reputation from this inexplicable failure.
Well I don’t know the answer. But I do know our offense looks like it has no focus from start to finish of games. There just seems to be so many missed assignments on offense and even on defense. Seldom do all the players seem to be on the same page. I don’t know if the fault is their lack of ability or experience to understand the plays and their assignments or the coaches’ inability to design plays and set assignments that are within the players capability. Maybe all of the above; maybe none of the above. I don’t know and at the moment I really don’t even want to think about it. This reminds me of a Curley Hallman team that played at Georgia and at Ole Miss a long time ago during the dark ages of the program. I can only hope we don’t sink to those depths again. This may be the most embarrassed I have been for our football team and LSU. When does the baseball regular season start?
Well my days of defending miles are over...if for no other reason than the embarrassment the program suffered tonight. I've never seen such a display of ineptness from a coaching staff outside of jr high. We are currently the butt of many a joke throughout the college football world. In a span of 1 minute and 17 secnds, miles proved all of his distractors correct. Miles will still be here next year, minus just about all respect from the fans, but every other coach on the offensive side of the ball needs to be shown the door. You all know me and you all know that I've never said anything negative about miles on here or in person before...make room on the ****ing ledge for me. Our program is on ther brink mediocracy. I'm sick of seeing our team show up for game after game unprepaired...I'm sick of seeing our players get worse year after year instead of improving...I'm sick of watching such high quality talent squandered...I'm sick of not understanding a damn thing miles says...after tonight, I'm just sick.
