as they come. Have been a Miles fan since day one and always defend LSU to a fault and am generally a "half full" guy. But after watching the game unfold Saturday night I'm just kind of scratching my head. All things considered, considering the overall talent we have , especially at WR and RB (and yes, even coaching), that was one of the worst gameplans I've seen. Hey,I'm happy, too. I live out of state so "home games" are an 800 mile round trip so the drive home was good and I kept the rally flags up. I was impressed with West Virginia who was much, much faster/quicker and athletic across the board than I thought they'd be. Certainly some of our offensive ineptitude was due to their defense.AND, by the same token, our defense was superb. LSU's special teams may be the best in America. And that's sort of the conundrum. Of the three phases Coaches Neyland and Bryant harped on, I'll put our defense and special teams up with anyone else's. That didn't happen by magic; it was due to hard work and coaching. After walking out of the Georgia Dome feeling like I'd just come out of a dishwasher after the North Carolina game, I wasn't sure about this team. After walking out of Tiger Stadium Saturday night, I feel we are on the cusp of having a great team. Everyone knows why we are a good team and not a great one. We have one more tuneup Saturday. Trust me,as an SEC trivia geek I know our terrible overall record vs Tennessee. Doesn't matter the era, coach ,our ranking vs a bad to so-so UT team(1959,1964, 1982) we have a hard time with this program. But I watched the UAB-Tennessee playback on SportSouth last night, and holy mackeral, Tennessee is awful. I wouldn't be so fired up if the whole team was slopping around. But its the same old same old. If we get this fixed, we can run the table, and yes that includes Lord Saban's Mighty Tide. If we have to re-write the playbook this week,do it. If we have to have Shepard run the Single Wing (a tribute to Neyland and Wyatt's Tennessee teams:lol , do it. Alternate QB's each possession,do it. I'll never boo,but I was rather quiet when we had the ball Saturday night. In fact, it was an overall odd atmosphere walking out of the Stadium Saturday night. We had just beaten a ranked team and it was more like we had beaten Arkansas State by 17. There's only so much we can do during the season as fans. Its up to the staff and players to get things done. We can continue on and have a very good team ,go 9-3 again and go to Orlando or Dallas. We also can make some changes and have a great team and go to Glendale.
It is weird that we are 4-0 and are likely to be 5-0 after next week, ranked in the top 10, and got there by beating two SEC teams and two ranked teams and everyone is "meh" when it comes to this team. I'm not sure what it is...we have dominated despite the scores of these games. We have not trailed in a game since our opener. We of played lights out on defense. And the only thing I can say about PP's play this year is "DAYUM SON". I guess "we" as fans just expect our tigers to blow everyone out with our D playing like this. Or maybe it is that there is an air of doubt and peeps are just expecting the bubble to pop and the losses to start piling up. I like Les, I think he has brought in talented people in the form of player AND coaches. I think that we will be undefeated win Bama rolls into tiger stadium, and after watching our boys shut down Divine I feel we have a real shot a taking down Bama. We are 4-0 people....how many other teams can say that. I understand that our offense is not "exciting" but neither were they in 2003. Everyone doubted that team up till national championship game.
You are in the forth stage of Milesisum Skepticism - Not too sure about this new guy Optimism - He's winning and recruiting well so lets see where it goes Excitement - NC wahoo! Extend his contract! Confusion "Scratching head" - dual coordinators? clock mgt? lossing back to back to bama, ole miss, florida? Where is RS? Anger - Comes from being stuck in stage four too long. No improvement at QB. Where is JL? Continue to run the option... Acceptance - It is what it is so be happy about the positives. Ignorant bliss  Now not everyone goes through all the stages in order. Some went straight from one to five. Others regressed from stage three back to two and are in a holding pattern there. The trick is not to get suck in stage 5 too long because it takes the fun out of the game. I no longer let it bother me. I have come to accept that our offense is not going to be good this year. I am happy that our defense has stepped up and PP is a man among boys. I will enjoy the good and block out the bad.
Have you even paid attention to the past 2 seasons? Opening up 4-0 and 5-0 respectively the past 2 years (against relatively soft competition), in the top 10 both time heading into the tough part of the SEC schedule? Going 3-5 in 2008 and 4-3 in 2009 (barely beating La Tech at home). Issues with defense in 2008. Issues with offense in 2009. Issues with offense in 2010. You do know what a pattern is, correct?
Yes, it is one of those paper things that my mommy uses to make me a new shirt. Both NC and WV will be ranked in the top 25 at the end of the year and I'm willing to bet right now that 3 out of the 4 teams that we have played and beaten will be in bowl games at the end of the year...they are semi soft (like those little cheese wheels) at best.
This is most excellent. I do agree, that is the only way to enjoy this season is to ignore what is imminently going to happen.
That's the spirit, Izzy. Don't fret over things you cannot control. Also, I agree, Pharpe. That was pretty good. Wouldn't let me rep you.
