1. Why is Dupre even being talked about in this discussion? He is in the slot and a yard behind Harris, he is clearly supposed to be the fourth guy in the backfield. Dural is on the outside and about a yard off the ball. He should be on the line.
  2. Nine in the screenshot, but only 7 in the box, with 2 clearly lined up for man-to-man coverage.
  3. really it's both of them. Tailback, fullback, quarterback, slot, and flanker all lined up in the backfield, hence the illegal formation 5 men in the backfield.
  4. 5 in the backfield, we had 6 on the line and we needed a 7th to be on the line
  5. Right, but the refs flag the guy who is closest to the line, but off, assuming he's aligned incorrectly. That's Dural; Dupre is a yard behind Harris and clearly is meant to be in the backfield.
    furduknfish likes this.
  6. Dupree is the only one that moved though. Watch the play again, let me see if I can find it
  7. Which goes back to what I was saying, Dupree is using Dural as his reference point as opposed to the LOS. So he sees that he isn't behind Dural and thus backs up. If he was astute, he would have motioned Dural to move up to the LOS. Dupree should have trusted that he himself was lined up correctly. That was unfortunate.

Ultimately still Dural's fault, but Dupree could have saved the day on that one.
  8. What is supposed to happen is that Dural should come to the line and immediately tell the side official whether he is supposed to be on the line or in the backfield. The ref will then help him line up correctly. He didn't ask for help, so he didn't get it.
  9. But I thought Dupre said he checked with the official re both himself and Dural, and he was told they were lined up properly. Maybe that happened BEFORE Dupre decided to back up?
