I'll come out and say it: Jimbo Fisher needs to go. (Ancient Thread)

i really worry that this is more saban's doing than jimbo fisher. nick saban is undoubtedly a defensive minded coach. saban really seems to believe in ball control, which is almost an extension of the defense because it keeps your opponent's offense from scoring much. it makes the defense's job much easier. during davey's last year our offense was very potent, but when things got tight saban always returned to ball control. last year we played ball control most of the time. ive been very critical of jimbo fisher and i am unimpressed by the offense, but i really worry that this is more saban than jimbo fisher. im not ready to say fisher is no good.

considering the turnovers weve had on offense its hard to fault saban completely. and our oLine has been a major disappointment.

I agree that the offense has been ultra conservative this year, but to suggest Fisher needs to go is overreacting. This offense is a byproduct of not having any confidence in our QBs.

Wasn't Fisher the coach in 2001 and 2003 when we set all sorts of offensive records? Didn't we have two pretty good QBs those years?

    I rest my case....

    We won, didn't we?

    Here's what Saban said:

I find it absolutely incredible that, on a day where Miami and Texas A&M lost to vastly inferior opponents, that someone would come on here after a good win and call for a coach's head.

We did not need to throw the ball last night. Our OL showed improvement and the way the game played out gave them a much needed confidence boost. They feel like they can go out and dominate the LOS now. It will pay dividends.

Jeez. Some people's children. :dis: :dis: :dis:

I listened to the after game radio show and they said the quaterbacks had
checkdown run options and that was the result we saw the quaterbacks checking out of pass to run plays, they went on to say with a 8.2 yard per run average why would you risk passing when you can control the ball.

We hope you are right . . . again.

Let's hope your take on things is correct.

Dude, I've been saying that since last season! Luckily, last year our defense was there to mask all his short comings but not this year.

TE, I'm not sure I fully agree but I too am very frustrated with

the lack of a vertical passing game this year. What I see happening is that teams can stack the LOS and typically DBs can squat on all the underneath stuff. I catch myself screaming to run some go routes just to loosen things up. While Jimbo didn't do all that much of it last year either it seemed as if every time we threw deep something good happened or followed immediately.

I also agree that the biggest disappointment for me is the OL. I didn't expect much out of the kicking/punting games so am not shocked there.

TE makes some really good points, but calling for Jimbo's head is not called for here. The guy has paid his dues at LSU and has been a damned good offensive coordinator. Is he perfect? No. Are better OC's out there growing on trees? No.

    Two points:
    1. Jimbo turned down head coach jobs last year, waiting on the right one. He'll probably find the right one this year, so he'll be gone anyway and we'll find out if an OC change produces instant results. I don't think they will.

    2. Nick was clearly trying to get a running game established. It has really sucked this year. I blame the offensive line which is underperforming and has all year long, not the offensive coordinator.

Does anyone really believe Nick Saban isn't in control of the offensive gameplan? Most of this stuff is scripted before the game. Saban felt his offensive line could handle Vandy and he was right. Yes we can't do this against the rest of the teams but he wasn't focusing on that. The plan was to win this game. Also I saw Saban talking to Jimbo on the headsets before every offensive play last night. If he wanted to pass more, we would have.

    I totally agree.

One thing's for sure. He wasn't talking to TE on his headsets. :D
