LSU beats Florida, and has a solid day of running the ball with some decent passing and great defense, will all the haters finally just shut up and admit that while LSU may not do it very prettily, they just f'n win... Or will they continue to call Miles lucky and say he is a terrible coach? Or... Is it just going to take another championship to shut people up? Is he the Tom Coughlin of college football when it comes to respect?
I think a lot of people would get off Miles' back if LSU showed any kind of consistency in the offensive game plan or execution win or lose. But in all honesty while I love Miles, the product we see on the field every Sarurday leaves a bit to be desired and in some instances does warrant the criticism he recieves. But again I am not calling for his job we just need a good OC hire. No one can argue about Miles' success over the last 7 seasons, but holy shit... winning a game without the cardiac dramatics would be real fuckin nice.
No! They will start to think that Miles is finally wising up a bit by listening to the criticism. It may shut them up for a while though. The naysayers will be waiting on a thank you call from Les, so they can dispense further wisdom.
The only thing that will shut them up is to have their wishes come true, which would be to hire "Coach X" (who is so much better than Les Miles) only to see LSU suddenly sink down to the level of Ole Miss. AT least then they'd be back in their comfort zone.
Or... Is it just going to take another championship to shut people up? Is he the Tom Coughlin of college football when it comes to respect?[/quote] Probably so. I like Miles as our coach and I think for the most part he has done what he was hired to do. His staff and gameplan are not always as successful as the talent we throw in it, but we play in the toughest conference in the country and wins do not come easy or smoothly at times. He also recruits well and that is a huge importance in keeping our program successful. Things could be much worse...I know and I remember. I think alot of people that complain unjustly are to young or have forgotten what it was like in the 80's. That said are there time where I want to ring his little fat neck...yes.
The uncertainty is what people get upset about. Having the athletes but not the "game" is the killer. I can think of no one we would rather have than Miles, there are just too much cognitive dissonance associated with his program.
Everyone has a different personality regarding their passion for sports. For some, having a miserable outward personality (i.e. always whining about whatever to the extreme) calms them down inwardly and is better for them than bottling it up. I often think about fans in cities such as Philly & Boston having the most "miserable" sports fans but SEC football has such passion that I think our fans rival other places.
I'm going to go waaaay out on a limb and predict it will be exactly the same as it has been the last 8 years. "Yeah, it was good enough to beat Florida, but we don't stand a chance against USC if we don't play better." "Yeah, it was good enough to beat USC, but we don't stand a chance against A&M if we don't play better." "Yeah, it was good enough to beat A&M, but we don't stand a chance against Alabama if we don't play better."
