We were in the middle of a championship run. The coaches were less worried about developing the next year's QB and more about winning the NC. If you look closely, that's what all teams on a championship run do. Remember how Texas was shit outta luck against Alabama when Colt McCoy (mysteriously) went down in the BCSNCG? Texas didn't even make a bowl game the next year, and Gilbert is now under center at SMU.
Surely you jest. That dude is in a one-read and run offense and he isn't effective. He would be even worse here. Darron Thomas I'll give you but his wheels aren't over-whelming. He's no more a runner than Bolden...and believe it or not, his wheels aren't overwhelming either. The only thing this passing attack needs is a shelf. Or a stack of papers to hold down on a windy day. Or a sweaty glass of crown on the rocks to sit on it.
Eh...I really don't think very highly of JJ, but I have to admit that I had a brain fart and meant to say Johnny Manziel of Aggie fame. Although Kiehl couldn't have been much worst than JJ...
Gilbert is under center at SMU because he should have NEVER been under center at Texas. He was a recruiting BUST. They have made more than a few mistakes with QB recruits in the recent past. However, I don't think it will continue. That being said I don't buy into the cliche if you have 2 QB's you have no QB's............seems like that comes from that worthless POS Lugenbill who was a pretty crappy QB himself. IMO, I think any team should do what it takes to win, if that means you have two QB's that have considerably different skill sets and they can be used effectively...........then do it. I think it is obvious this year why ZM did not play more last year, that is what it is. This year LSU is very limited in the plays they can call for many reasons. It is OBVIOUS to us and ANYONE that play's LSU that the QB will not outwalk you let alone outrun. This fact alone narrows the focus of the defense and I think we will know far more after Saturday as to what LSU has done to adapt...............I don't think Les Miles canned "we have to play harder and execute" will get the job done.
I totally agree that Gilbert was out of his league in the big leagues--but it was a case in point about 2nd team QBs not getting reps during a championship run. Last year, people were certain Mett was ready for the rigors of the SEC schedule. Apparently, he was not. It wouldn't bother me if Miles decided to bring in a QB with legs for a change of pace. It would, perhaps, be a nice additon.
Agree...........see you live in Plano, r u part of Dallas side of alum assoc??? I "hang out" with the "old people" on Fort Worth side!
When I was young and single, I used to go to watch games with the Dallas alumni association at Ben's Halfyard House on Lower Greenville. Over the years, it's been less complicated to watch at home. I don't do any of the crawfish boils in the spring, either.
Sounds like you are ready for the "slower" side of the LSU Alum group in metroplex. Much smaller and "seasoned" group, good crawfish boil too! We used to do Ben's thing too. We did get 200 tics to LSU/Oregon as host, expect same for TCU.
While the words ALONE are worthless, he's not lying. If they execute the gameplan and play focused, disciplined, and hard, they can score some points and eat some clock. That's all that was missing against Florida. Drops, fumbles, penalties, and missed assignments in the blocking scheme are our biggest issues on offense, and that's all a matter of focus and discipline. It might not be getting done, but that stuff CAN be coached out.
