From another thread, got me to thinking....

If you were a blue chip recruit, would you sign up to play for Miles? Try to look at it from a player's prospective.

Playing for LSU has a lot of cache for folks from Louisiana. If given the chance, I'd prolly sign to wear the purple and gold even if Osama Bin Laden was coaching. But I'm a life long tiger fan.

But what about the wider recruiting region? The recent bad press, the whole controversy with the QB's. All the clock mismanagement. I don't see how it can't hurt us.

Recruits come to play for LSU not for Les. Coaches come and go and the average stay is less than five years. The days of Charlie Mac and Bear Bryant coaching for 25 years are long gone.

Our current and last coach won national championships and LSU is a perennial top-10 team. If Les doesn't work out, LSU will hire another top coach and candidates will be lining up for the opportunity to coach here, in the best recruiting state in the SEC, with a young and talented team. Recruits know this.

    Recruits are lining up, too.

That is true but player/coach relationships and the offensive schemes they run have much to do with where kids go. (See Ryan Mallet)

true and key recruits that fit needs make the difference between successful and unsuccessful recruiting.

see our qb position and offensive line. just because you sign top classes doesnt mean youve addressed needs.

This isn't a question I can answer with any degree of certainty. I've never sat in front of the man to have a conversation. Another thing, most of the recruiting is done by the position coaches. Would I play for Frank Wilson if Miles is the head coach? Gonzales? Ensminger? Would it matter who the head coach was if I felt like one of these guys was gonna be like a daddy to me? I just don't know. But I do think it's a valid question considering what's going on. I thought about it myself while reading about Drew in the stands yesterday. Recruits may look at the personnel and see opportunity. Who knows??

I will say if I was a LA kid, the answer would be yes. But I'm not voting in the poll because in general I just don't know.

Fellers, we can criticize Les for a lot of things, but the guy can recruit. It's a stretch to condemn Les' recruits.

A few come because they love a certain coach (not always the head coach) or because Dad played here.

Many people have interviewed top blue chip athletes and one thing is certain--the biggest reason the true studs have for choosing a school is not the head coach or the football tradition. It's not the facilities or the academic opportunities either.

It is the likelihood of early playing time. It has always been that way.

sure we get ****loads of talent. no ones disputing that. much like USC has for the last decade. but if not addressing needs and just overloading with 5 stars for the sake of 5 stars does not a recruiting class make.

evaluating and addressing needs is key.

qb and o-line are not an overnight deficiency.

we signed 0 and 1 of each respectively.
