It hurt them. They dropped to the bottom of 1 loss teams. It's just that there were only 2 other 1 loss teams to fall behind, and their SOS was so strong compared to LSU and USC, it didn't hurt them in the computers who don't care when you lose.
This is a legit question. Here is what has to happen in order for an LSU loss in the SEC CG dropping us to only #2 in the BCS: 1. The winner of Mizzou/Kansas loses in the Big 12 CG (probably against OU) 2. WVU loses to #20 UConn or Pittsburgh 3. ASU loses to USC 4. Tennessee beats Kentucky (we can't lose to Georgia since they would assume the #2 spot instead of LSU) That's not much to happen in order for a 2 loss LSU team to play Ohio State for the BCS title. You have to figure at that point, LSU would have an extra win over a Georgia team who would be the next team to be considered by the human polls, and LSU would have considerably stronger computer poll results over Georgia. The only other team that could overtake us is VTech, since they play their CG the same weekend as we do. But voters would remember that thumping LSU gave them back in September and LSU would stay ahead of Vtech. The final standings would look like: 1. Ohio State 2. LSU 3. Virginia Tech (if they win out) 4. Georgia 5. Oklahoma 6. Kansas/Missouri 7. USC 8. Missouri/Kansas 9. W. Virginia 10. Oregon ROOT LIKE HELL FOR USC, UCONN AND TENNESSEE. Everything else should take care of itself.
And they took a LOT of heat for that too! Because of the voters giving OU that "free pass", it's the reason why so much USC/LSU controversy started in the first place.... I said it in '03 and I'll say it now: YOU SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IF YOU CAN"T WIN YOUR OWN CONFERENCE TITLE!!!
