cliff, just a friendly word of advice. using the quote function makes it easier for people to read your posts. when you dont quote, but just underline (or whatever) someones words, it reads as your own, but emphasized. when skimming through threads, it especially makes it hard to tell they are not your words.

thank you. i couldnt have said it better myself.

now, on the subject of football. what is just as worrisome (at least to me) is what is so far a lack of leadership. seems like rs is a natural born leader, so i hope he grows and steps into the role if the qb's cannot. but the last couple of years, a true leader/leaders has/have been missing.

If you're looking for lack of QB leadership it's simple. If you don't have confidence in yourself and your abilities, then you won't have the confidence of your teammates and be able to lead them effectively. JJ is scared to death of throwing picks so he plays it safe. Lee is just scared, period, when he comes into games. One of them will have to step up by season's end. We can't go through another offseason of this, especially when all the other pieces for a championship run will have fallen into place.

i agree. i read somewhere not long ago that jj was getting more comfortable and that his timidity last season was from watching lee thow pick sixes and not wanting to make the same mistake. but he has a year of experience now and HAS to overcome that if he wants to be effective both in his playing ability and leadership role.

and thank you cliff. much easier to read.

Other than looking like the stereotypical white QB, what made Flynn a great game manager? He made a ton absolutely terrible decisions, threw a lot of picks, and didnt complete passes at a high percentage.

I never mentioned race, as it has nothing to do with the subject. However Flynn was a really good college QB that did what it took to win games. He didn't make a ton of terrible decisions as you claim and he got the ball to his play makers. I never said he was a great game manager, but now that you mention it he was.

    EDIT:
Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

    I feel left out.

And someone needs to step up before season's START...not season's end. It ain't like we have a cupcake schedule on the front end.

I don't think anyone mentioned anything about the color of the QB's. The point is that neither JJ nor JL have what it takes to win a game with their arms, like JR did, whether it be they are too scared or just don't have it, neither has shown that they can perform at that level, so why not mold them into game managers like Mauck and Flynn. I think you are reading waaay to far into this discussion if you think it has anything to do with race.

I would say that the running game (read Hester and an great OL) was a MAJOR factor in Flynn's success. But I would recommend looking at his numbers...ALL of them...from his senior year. Everyone remembers Flynn holding up the :crystal:, therefore, he is loved and thought highly of as a QB. But he most certainly had his rough spots.

I know I mentioned it, but the running game is absolutely key to the success of this team. It was atrocious last season, therefore, the offense was atrocious. Therefore, the defense was worn out...because they were on the field all game long. Fix the running game, fix the team.

Your opinion is your opinion and I'm fine with that. I'm fine with people feeling he played okay or good. I can see that. But I'd bet my life on it that the majority of these people voting for Lee TO START are the same ones that were PRAYING that he would not start the rest of the season after JJ was injured and they saw the results of the LA Tech game. He simply didn't look like a college QB at that point. And NOBODY was on the Lee bandwagon after that (people still supported him, but nobody was hoping he'd get another start). Before the LA Tech game though, they were sure that he'd open up our offense despite past performances.

And then there is 22% of the people that chose a guy that they've likely never seen play and hasn't had a snap at LSU (and was 1-4 in the spring game). I think that tells you everything you need to know about the majority of those voting in that poll. The guy who realistically gives us our best chance of winning based on the past is voted third in the poll to start.

But that's the Dandy Don site and he tends to exaggerates things too so that's to be expected.

I know one thing, whoever the QB is, the WRs will have to play much better than they've been playing. Last year, we dropped a ton of passes (especially toward the end). Our QBs aren't at the point where they can afford to have WRs dropping 3+ balls each game. We have three possible superstars at the WR position with Toliver, RR, and RS. I expect some drops from RS, but hopefully the others will not have many drops throughout the season.

Ford could be a possible star too at RB. If P. Peterson says you're awesome, they you're likely (potentially) awesome. He said the same about RS last year, but we didn't play him enough. So if they all perform, it will help our offense out tremendously.
