Charles Hannigrif brought up a good point on the radio today regarding spring games and quarterbacks. He point out that in the 2003 spirng game, Matt Mauck thew four or five interceptions. Last time I check MM had a pretty good fall in '03. The point he made is that you can't put too much stock in a spring game for a number of reasons including but not limited to the division of players in the game, players playing new positions etc. Don't anyone jump off of the cliff just yet :thumb:

I would have to think that a number of the "poor tackling" issues could also have been a result of the Tigers playing against themselves. Did we really want a guy to go out with an injury due to a bone-crushing hit in the spring game?

It was a practice, a scrimmage. The coaches set them up to view different things, and they are typically not exciting to watch.

With that being said, it's time for JJ to step up and be the man; he's a junior now with a full year under his belt. Of course, last year, with any type of running game, we'd have been pretty darned good. THAT needs to turn around first.

I have a really novel idea, why don't we wait till we see the product on the field against real competition before we trash JJ or JL. This is not to say that the QB play along with OL, and the running game don't need to improve over last season, but as has been pointed out, this is a scrimmage of watered down plays where one shouldn't put too much stock in the performance. Yes, it is a measuring stick, but it isn't the only method of measuring how good we will be. It is kinda funny how the only thread that was opened is about QB play. Based on what I saw, if this is the all to be all method of measuring how successful we will be, we got bigger problems than just the QB play. The D was tackling horribly and allowing huge runs against them, the OL, although opening up huge holes, was allowing the watered down D get to our QB's like they weren't even there. Why aren' t we opening threads talking about all of these other negatives?

A big positive, the run game looked great.

Growing up in Atlanta, I used to make a habit of checking the AJC for spring game stats for teams like Auburn, Georgia and Alabama, and I can't recall a QB's stats looking good in any of them. It's just a terrible format for accurately gauging QB performance.

You're playing against your own team, with two hand touch rules in place for sacks, and the offensive line is usually slapped together. Way too early to write off either QB.

We'll know more after September 4th.

Until then, it'll be a long summer. Geaux Jefferson/Lee, and Geaux Tigers.

Think about this for a second. JJ won 9 games with NO RUNNING GAME AT ALL. So the question should really be, IF THE RUNNING GAME DOESN'T IMPROVE...

I am at the point to were I feel that if we can rush for 100+ ever game that LSU can win 11 games easy... Even with average play from JJ....

Though, we will never win 11 games clinching to IF's
