That's true. I liked that the NCAA got rid of them, but I think they went overboard with the bats teams were forced to use this year. I don't like the fact that they cut the sweet spot back from what I think was 5" to 3"? IMO, there was anything wrong with the bats from last year. I agree that a baseball game shouldn't have a football score, but don't make the game totally small ball and I think that's what happened this year because of the bats.

Speaking of aluminum bats, I heard a story one time about an ex-Braves slugger names Bob Horner. He was taking BP with one just to see what he could do with it and was consistently hitting them out around 550ft, with the furthest estimated at 605. And he was a soft, pudgy f**k.

Can't even imagine how far McGwire, Bonds, or Sosa could hit one with an aluminum bat at the height of their juice use.

Sure why not? All I know is that after the strike baseball was dead. Steroids saved baseball. Maybe not for purists like yourself, but purists don't put people in the seats, or watching at home. The home run did, and at the end of the day, no matter how much you or I love the game of baseball, the object is make money.

because the big leagues have lots of guys with tremendous power, and i think they might actually kill a pitcher. thats not good for the game.

and aluminum bats have already killed a high school pitcher with a shot to the face.

they do allow batter to do their job better, though, which is what you said you want. presumably you want the pitchers to be worse at their jobs.

No I think they should be able to juice too.

Let me throw a hypothetical at you.

You are a baseball player. You have a family of 4. Baseball is all you know, you have had trouble making it to the bigs, been on a host of minor league teams. Your bills are piling up, kids need braces, etc etc.... Someone you trust approaches you and says, take this, and you will get bigger, faster, stronger, and it will help you make the big leagues, and get a great contract.

Would you take the drugs to support your family?

yes but i wouldnt complain when i was thrown out. i would also scuff the ball with an emery board to throw funky curveballs, cork the bat, pretend i had tagged a runner when i hadnt, put pine tar on the ball, whatever. its not about what i want, its about the game making its own rules. the rule is no steroids. it is a good rule. you might not like it because you hate pitchers or something, but i like the rule and so does baseball.

players are free to try to cheat if they want. baseball is free to fire them for cheating.

you dont seem to grasp the concept of private ownership of anything. baseball makes the rules. you say you want your landlord crushed by the government, the guy buying and selling food at the commodities exchange, you want the government to destroy him. if baseball doesnt play by your rules you want to intervene. you need to understand that lasalle doesnt make the rules. other people own things and they have freedom to do with them as they please. a league should be able to exist to play a sport however it wants, without you telling it what the players can and cant do. do you understand that?

if i decided to start a "natural" no drugs league, would you oppose it? who do you think you are?

what else do you think, they should give batters 7 strikes? tell us more about the completely irrelevant opinions you have about the rules of games. do you think chess should give black the first move instead of white? good for you.

i saw some kids playing basketball at the park. i told them i thought they should play with a rule that says 3 pointers are worth 4. i just wanted to see more shooting. they told me it was their game and i should leave them alone. i thought, "hey thats weird, they make their own rules and dont care what i think, whats up with that."

come on dude, you know I didn't say that. Rules are rules, but they can also change with information. I guess you still think there should be a separate Negro league? Of course you don't, but see, rules are meant to be changed.
