im not easily offended but i can see how these folks can be offended by this, but why now? and you cant tell folks how to feel if they have been truly wronged.
Well, its certainly not the first time this has come up, particularly with teams/schools where the perceived slur is of native Americans. That's why most schools that had some native American mascot have change, ala UL-Monroe going from Indians to Warhawks. The issue just seems to get revived every few years. And I understand what you're saying about not telling people how they are supposed to feel, but I think the people who keep bringing this up are missing a fundamental point of sports. To the fans of any team, the mascot is a source of pride and a rallying point, not a means to hurl an insult at anyone.
If it was the New England negroids or the San Francisco shineboxes it would certainly be a rallying point for fans.
cause thats been the name for how many years, now they want to change it after all these years of history with the team. little too late imo
I agree with that, but the wronged outweigh the fans. But as I said, this has been the name for years. Not changing it is more about money then offending anyone.
Right but if it was the examples albeit extreme ones I made up, would your opinion change? I think the offense is still in redskins but we've been conditioned over time due to its acceptance. Still offensive as fuck, no?
this may sound dumb, but it wouldnt have happened that way, example being Jim Crow and civil rights movement, blacks did something about it at that point in time. Native Americans fought back but died in mass and accepted land, casinos and no taxes. point is blacks had the dignity to do something about it back then, this generation of blacks and native american are a pretty spoiled stupid ignorant bunch. as my grandfather would say to his grandkids, yall aint shit compared to my generation. thats why i dont buy into the change it argument, its too late for that.
