The point was that fan expectations are just as demanding at other top programs. No $3 million coach get a free ride anymore or anywhere. Any coach that is shy about unrealistic fans cannot work the top jobs.
Maybe I'm not looking at the numbers right [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Shula]Mike Shula - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Zook]Ron Zook - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Miles]Les Miles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]
You're giving Bama too much credit. Those wins in '05 and '06 don't count, remember? Also, Miles is 4-1 in bowls and 9-4 in 2009.
My opinion on these coaching qualities. 1) Recruiting - couldn't be better 2) Hiring and managing a quality staff - Needs improvement. You even said yourself "Agreed, I don't think the problem is Les. I really think it is Crowton. But of course he gets credit for Chevis, which brings him up from Poor. 3) Motivate the Player -According to RS, he is a great motivator, so I buy it. 4) Developing players - Needs improvement. QB has digressed. He's an O Line guy, I think more could be done there. 5) Manage the Game - Poor, no need to elaborate. And I'll add the following necessary qualities 6) Scheming- Marginal 7) Game time adjustments - Needs Improvement - Most notably from the UT game. UT couldn't stop us when we ran left, yet we consistantly forced the ball right, where we were less effective. Les or someone needs to pick up on that. 8) Public Image - Needs improvement - needs to better represent the University. It's not how you start, it's how you finish and we'll know soon enough.
Agreed, but their fan bases wanted to get rid of a coach that weren't living up to even the most modest expectations. Our fan base wants to fire a coach that has a 10+/season win avg, 76% winning percentage, and SEC Championship and a National Championship, all over a 5 yr period. Not really apples to apples there Red. Your point is correct in that all programs like ours have high expectations though, ours is just a bit more irrational with some of the fans.
GT is 119th out of 120 teams in passing yards per game (90.0 ypg). You really think that's what we need?
I'll add another - Preparation (hang with me a sec) If you look at the bowl games he's hammered Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ga Tech, and lost to Penn State on the last drive. Field sucked for both teams but it wasn't a normal game. They had a good game plan against Bama last year, but lost Scott, JJ, and the bad call. Florida - played them tough but couldn't score. The game plans in all those games were good - to me that's preperation.
