C'mon, you can't do that. Not in this thread. The thread is "if not miles then who?" Play along.

And I agree about Davis. A couple of years ago, I would have said that he would be good for LSU, but with the junk that is coming out, no thanks.

Davis is the guy I wanted when Saban left.

that miami team he put together may be the best collection of talent ever assembled in college football.

Which is why I also wanted him here when Saban left.

I typed a long post here agreeing with you and then I hit the backspace key to correct a typo and it disappeared. The point is that I don't even know why Davis is at a basketball school like UNC. Sure it was the gateway job that got Mack Brown to Texas but BD was already a "name" head coach Him taking the UNC job was like if Nick Saban were to suddenly become the Kentucky coach. He was also number 1 on my A list when Saban left

    SO much truth to this.

When Saban was here, he was one of the greatest coaches LSU EVER had. Then Miles comes in and tops him. No way in-hell we get lucky for a 3rd straight time.

Really can't argue too much with this, because he may have been the greatest coach LSU has ever had, but the point still remains it would be very hard for us to strike gold 3 times in a row. Like him or not Miles overall body of work still puts him in the class of great LSU coaches. Having the luck to have had 2 back to back is pretty strong, getting a 3rd is a tough mountain to climb.

I agree with this but saban and miles are apples and oranges regarding coaching acumen. I doubt miles goes anywhere and competes for a national title. scummy saban has rebuilt 2 storied programs who were at rock bottom and won NC's in a blink of an eye.

miles may go down as an average coach who took over LSU at the right time.

still not gonna argue his record first couple of years. it speaks for itself. then again so does 8-8 the last 2 in the sec. saban was 16-0.

Won't argue that point, but the clock is still ticking for Miles so his legacy still has yet to be finalized, whereas Saban's is done here. He has a good thing going at Bama and hopefully he continues to keep them where they are, time will tell, because that is something we don't know if he can do. His history has him moving on after 4-5 yrs.

Hard to argue with the last two years. But Saban had his problems as well. He lost some games he should not have (ULM, UAB) - Miles hasn't done that. He's had some close ones (Troy, LA Tech), but they didn't lose.

I think Saban is clearly a better coach on gameday. I think they're pretty equal recruiters. I think Miles is a much better representative of a school, a state, and a program.

At the end of the day, if Saban keeps 'Bama out of trouble with the NCAA, and if 'Bama wins more SEC West titles than LSU while these two are coaching, then there's really nothing to even discuss.

Couple of big "ifs" in that sentence, though.

I still think most folks that hate Miles (as in cannot accept that he might know some things about running one of the Top 10 football programs in the country over the last decade) do so because he's not smooth in front of the camera. It makes everyone of his mistakes seem 200 feet tall. And everything he does right seem like dumb luck.
