Patterson does not have a buyout, unless they added one when they redid his contract last season.LSU!

Then don't be! :D Not my point. My point is Michigan's program is static in the same way that Penn State is static. Rich Rod is finding that out right now. I bet his seat is WAAAY hotter than Miles'.

You're making my point for me. Miami's culture was on a deep, deep slide - the team was full of good athletes with really bad attitudes. Took a certain kind of dude to want to clean that up.

I'll agree - this is my weakest point. But I still don't think Nebraska can recruit with Oklahoma and Texas, so they won't be back - at least not until something drastic happens to those two programs.

    Static?
The season before Carr was forced down, they were a FG away from the National Championship game.
Michigan was right where they have always been.
An occasional 8 win season, but usually a minimum of 9, a co-favorite to win the Big Ten and always a threat to compete for the National Championship.

Rich Rod's seat should be hotter.
He's the 1st Michigan coach to have a losing season since the 60's.
    He's got a 3-13 conference record.

Miami has always been a team full of athletes with bad attitudes.
Remember the Catholics vs Convicts when they played ND back in early 90s?
Never stopped them from getting the coach they wanted in the past.
Until they ran off a guy that won 80% of the games he coached.

They weren't on a deep deep slide, they had 1 bad year, fired there coach, and had to settle for their 8th choice as a replacement.

They're already right on the heels of those 2 schools.
Just recorded their 1st 10 win season since Solich was coach.
Are projected to be even better this year.

Michigan is static, as in change is not really welcome - and Bo is still the head football coach, regardless of who gets the paycheck.

We're just going to disagree about Miami. The plummet they experienced was in full nose dive when LSU spanked them, then got in a fight after the bowl game.

Nebraska had a good year, and Pelini is recruiting OK - but Oklahoma had a down year last year, and Texas is cruising Florida style.

    Nebraska's last 5 recruiting classes, going backwards (Rivals rankings): #22, 28, 30, 13, 20. They've been outrecruited by Texas A&M 3 of the last 5 years (Rivals)

    Oklahoma's last 5: #7, 13, 6, 14, 9

    Texas' last 5: #3, 5, 14, 5, 5

Not really close. By comparison, Florida, LSU, Alabama and Georgia pretty much hover in or near the Top 10 every year lately.

I'm pretty sure he meant 'rivals' as in LSU's in-conference opponents, not 'rivals' as in Rivals.com.

Patterson has had several contracts redo's in successive seasons, he mainly goes after more money for assistants which he did this last time. The last contract extension I read he did not have a buyout.LSU!

Bo died before Carr was forced to retire, so I'm not sure how much input he gives out these days.
I'm confident that had he still been alive, Carr would have gotten at least one more year.

And as far as not changing, can you think of a guy more polar opposite to Michigan than Rich Rod?

Miami is what they always were.
Loaded with talent, but a whole lot of extra baggage.
They got a guy who was never a head coach before, and is learning on the fly.
If given enough time, I think he's gonna be a good one.

Nebraska had back to back good years now.
Moving to the Big Ten was probably a good move for them too.
They may never get back to domination like they did in the 90s, but they'll be around the top again.

I can see I'm going to have be very specific with you...:D Did you really think I didn't understand that Bo was a ghost?

If you don't think that the ghosts of Bo, and Bear, and Parsegian, just to name a couple, are haunting every coach that ever takes the job at Michigan or Alabama or Notre Dame, then Geaux Tigers and let's talk about something else. :thumb:

Those programs and their boosters require a certain kind of dude to walk in, give them the finger, and press on with their idea of what the program should be. Not many folks can do what Saban did with Bama boosters.

And, again, you're making my point about Rich Rod, Nootch. Michigan is a Les Miles kind of school - power running, nasty defense, hard-nosed football. Michigan hired him over the very loud and pretty public protestations of those that didn't want that brand of football. He's not doing so well. Standby for an update to his resume...

    no, I'm making my point.
they weren't happy with the status quo, even though it was quite successful.

They made a change, couldn't get their guy, and settled for something completely different than they wanted.

    How's it working for them?

Are you willing to turn to complete sh!t just for the sake of change?

How is this fan base gonna react when wee can't lure someone away from their current job?
And we end up settling for someone who brings us down to the levels Michigan is currently experiencing?
