clearly. and i think its ripe for the picking to shut them up again. I like the hunger this creates.

mack doesnt have the history of this. Mark Richt did his first 3 years by making some bonehead calls. though now hes got something overshadowing it. He cant even get to the big game anymore.

but lets be fair, les has taken it to a whole nother level.

He is sorta a lucky idiot and hes a bit lost more than even most high school coaches. But winning cures everything but 4-4 in the SEC is not going to improve matters.

Whipping an overrated NC team will be a good way to start the season. I thought we had an inept offense until I watched them last year.

    We score twice, we win.

    Agreed
Considering the climate the ol ms game created amongst sports writers/pundits, it is amazing it got about 3 seconds worth of airtime and quickly got dismissed. I still say it is more about his speech than his performance. "Mad Hatter' was not intended as a term of endearment. It was ESPN's way of denigrating him to his face.
I know that struggling heightens the awareness of mistakes. I don't watch UT but I imagine Mack would get plenty of heat if he dropped 4 games. Hell, he got heat from his fans while winning, and still does. They don't have much respect for him either. Most people outside of TX would be surprised. But you don't see it reflected in the press because he doesn't trip up on camera.
That's a bit over the top. I don't believe this team runs itself. Miles is a great deal smarter than most people know, because they have spent no time around him. If he really was that dumb, kids/parents would have wised up years ago and stopped signing with him. State school or not, there are plenty of great schools to play for. Why do they come to LSU?
Agreed also, but I think we will score more than that. The offense will want to step on the gas, and with the pressure on Miles this year, he might let them.

The national media was ALL OVER The 2008 team, especially the defensive line. Did not pan out. Because it's college football, they just can't really know - so they take an angle, and try to run it. I don't think they even really care if they get it wrong - as long as it gets the right people calling in/tuning in/writing in.

As for a replacement, I respect Nootch's numbers, but like all data, they don't really cover the intangible stuff.

Michigan's legacy is actually a huge burden and a roadblock as well; Miami was having serious troubles and were deep diving at that time, not just shallow diving; Nebraska has to recruit in a very tough atmosphere - now that recruiting is national, they may never return to their once-great stature.

LSU has a few things going for it that none of those schools had at the time - not the least of which is an amazing recruiting source that it dominates. LSU program is also flush with cash, has great facilities, and I don't think the TAF is nearly as controlling as other boosters.

I think LSU could, at the end of the day, attract a much better hire than those numbers say.

But I DO NOT want to see Miles run off until he proves that he just cannot pick good assistant coaches and will not get LSU to the SEC crown again.

End of the day, he needs to win the West in the next two years. If he does that - he's good to go.

Speaking of coaches that "sound like a buffoon", it wasn't terribly long ago that many in the Tiger Nation wanted Lou Holtz to be hired HC of LSU.

My graduate advisor, for one. But he's a Notre Dame alum and always disliked Miles.

"I don't want to coach there, there legacy is just too good"

don't mean to be a prick, but how believable does that sound?

Rutgers coach turned them down. RUTGERS.
How high to you think Rutgers was flying when Schiano took THAT job?

Give you a hint, Rutgers had only finished the season ranked ONCE in his entire lifetime.

So he was willing to take over a team that spent eternity in the sh!tter, but wasn't gonna do it at a school that can contend every year?

most dominant team of the 90's.
2 years removed from being in a NC game.
    Just went 10-3.
From '93 until Solich got canned, they failed to win 10 games only twice.
had won fewer than 9 games once since '69. ONCE!

if Solich had quit to take an NFL job, candidates would have been willing to rape goats to get a job like that.

this would be the same mindset those other schools had.

I don't feel like going back thru this whole thread, and I feel certain someone has mentioned Les' buyout. But...

It isn't just Les' buyout. You have to consider that, unless you somehow get a Gruden type that's out of coaching, LSU would also have to pay the successor's buyout. Take for instance a Patterson. LSU would have to pay his buyout to get him away from TCU...AND pay Les Miles buyout.

    Just throwing that out there...
