You bring up an excellent point. LSU's best hope may ride in the fact that both Bama and Florida remain in the top 10 as far as computer polls go (you get an extra boost to your rating with top 10 wins and you want your only loss to be to as highly a ranked team as possible) and as high as possible in the human polls (Bama and Florida at #5 and #6 at the end of the year would be phenomenal for LSU's chances. In the end, LSU 10 point victories over both these teams (very impressive wins in everyone's mind) would still keep Bama and Florida in the top 10. What we really need is for Bama to continue to win and Florida most definitely to be undefeated going into that SEC CG.
same could be said of LSU. while miles is GREAT when it comes to bowl games, i don't think that his luck will last forever. texass is good. just took them a while to show it. i don't expect them to slow down any time soon. just like i think that bama is the best team in the SEC, i think texas is a legitimate number one. are they as good as florida? i think so, in a roundabout way, and we couldn't beat florida.
LSU beats them soundly! I am looking for a 17 point lead in the 4th! my heart 2nd's that motion!! :miles:
Using your own philosophy, it has taken us a while to show how good we can be as well, and we are still improving. I wouldn't say we couldn't beat UF now, we just didn't then. This weekend against Bama will tell just how much better we are as opposed to then.
sure. i think we could've (should've) beaten florida. a more aggressive game plan would have made sure of that. i like our chances from here on out. but i'm not ready to call texas (or any other team ahead of us) weak until LSU can roll an opponent that is worthwhile on the national scene. in the eyes of the voters LSU is probably an afterthought. take care of business and things will take care of themselves. but, like you said, let's see how LSU redeems itself this weekend. if we can a handle an alabama defense that i think is tougher than florida's then we can talk about BCSNCG.
1. LSU beats them soundly, whether high or low scoring. i will be very surprised but very happy! i expect it to be a close score. 2. LSU wins a close one in a low scoring game. this is what i expect to happen. both teams have really good defenses and i just dont see a high score from either side. 3. LSU wins a close one in a high scoring game. i will be surprised if this happens. our d needs to contain every team from here on out if we are gonna run the table. our o is improving, but i am not yet convinced we can beat a good sec team in a high scoring game. low scoring yes. but i need more convincing the o has turned things completely around.
I agree with that. Of course none of this is really what the thread was intended for, so it is a bit off topic, but everyone is starting to get their hopes and sites set on making it to the SECCG and the BCSNCG. I can't fault anyone for that. It is always our hopes and dreams, and where we are right now in our season, I think, is above where anyone thought we would be.
In that sense, what the computers think about Iowa will not matter. Because the human polls still account for 2/3 of the BCS score, and if LSU finishes winning out against the #1 and #2/#3 teams in the country, they will have Iowa ranked several spots below LSU. I'll give you OSU (maybe) and PSU. Wisconsin and Mich. State? Uh, no.
Depends on Bama's play. If Bama has unforced turnovers (unforced fumbles and easy interceptions) or heinous penalties, then I won't be surprised that LSU spanked 'em. If, however, Bama plays pretty cleanly and LSU still beats them soundly, then I will be very pleasantly surprised and happily eat crow, which I have developed an affinity for lately.... If the game score is high (say >40 points total), I will be a little surprised. But I expect there will be some big plays that account for the bigger scores, instead of either team sustaining drives.
