If Hill becomes a feature back, what will his yards be? My guess is 1500 if he gets 20+ a game.. I would love for Blue to stay healthy and him and Hill both get 20ish..... by my guesstimates we need around 70-80 plays a game. 60% run 40% pass on "effective" passes. One can only hope.
I know this doesn't answer the question, but how awesome is Jeremy Hill? I think he's the best freshman LSU running back, maybe next to Justin Vincent, in the 21st century. His vision and speed are off the charts. When that dude gets up to the secondary, he will rarely not take it the distance. Love it!
Yeah he is awesome but we also have to remember he sat out a year. With out that year off how scary could he of been. Lets hope we find out next season.
Lets just hope there is no sophomore slump. Justin Vincent, Kenny Hilliard both experienced this after outstanding freshman campaigns.
This. I remember Vincent never got back to his Freshman level of play, which was incredible. Came down with a bad case of butter fingers if I remember correctly.
Any idea what happened to Hilliard? Sometimes I get the feeling that Miles doesn't like putting out the back that people expect to see(e.g., Ware, Hilliard), but I'm sure there is a sensible reason. When Hilliard did play, he didn't look very good.
I've read mostly on this board by guys like Bhelm that it could have been, but not definitive, an issue with him having twins, or a child or something. Honestly, I wonder if he had fumble problems in practice, I can't remember who it was we were playing early in the year, Auburn maybe, we are on the goal line, Hilliard gets the ball in what looks like a sure touchdown if he just stretches the ball out, he gets wrapped up and brought down and instead of reaching the ball out like we saw Jeremy Hill do few times this season, Hilliard covers it up with both arms to make damn sure he doesn't cough it up. I don't really have a problem with that at all but it just doesn't seem instinctive to me as a tailback on the goal line, if that makes sense.
That's true, I was sort of assuming that he did(or more likely did not) do something in practice which restricted his time on the field. It's interesting to see Hill look and run so well because he seems to have the least amount of talent out of all the backs. He just has a knack and knows how and where to run.
The SEC is a rugged league and running backs go down frequently. The days of 30-carry backs is largely over. If a top back expects to evade injury and make it to the NFL, it's easier if he can share the load. It's safer if he can sit when injured because there is another top running back. Managing 4 or 5 backs may be too inefficient, but it is best to rotate 3 top backs in the SEC, . . . if you have them.
