That's a good point. there's lots of non-news that gets posted in the Den (my own blatant self-promotion included) and stays because it's popular or a good topic or because the poster is good friends with a mod/is a mod. Lets not pretend that the mods rule is impartial or completely fair. Everybody's human.

And maybe that's how it should be. Maybe change isn't needed. The way the SEC and college football is these days, anything and everything affects the outcome of our season. Certainly the firing of Tubs, for ex., is a huge game changer for everyone in the SEC and is worthy of general discussion.
This weekend is the SEC champ game. Should it's inevitable game thread be moved from the den? Of course not.

I say we just roll the clock back a week. Mods, go easy on moving the SEC news out of the den.

There ya go, problem solved. it's miller time.

You said EXACTLY what I think. I have a forum, its free BTW. Indyracing scene.com and the advertisers pay for the cost of the software and server space. Its very small but it pays for itself.

As you I used to be a contributor. to add the the ludicrousy, there are people here who critisize this opinion. I've witnessed contributors here ( back when I was ) openly bad mouth a young man for not contributing. crap like that would get u banned so fast on any of the racing forums.

It costs $180 bucks for VB bulletin forum software, and 35 bucks a month for server space. ( it can be more depending on band width ) I have a friend that pays 150 a month but he has 8000 members. In Brett's defense, I am sure it could be higher, I don't know it varies with company used and badnwidth, but you can shop that around too. Reliability costs. BUT what I am getting at is........
Sponsors can easily pay for that. Again a friend of mine that runs Indiana Open wheel racing forum charges his sponors, 300 or so a year. It varies. Now if you have 30 sponsors on a rolling billboard, you do the math.
A forum this size could get 50 sponsors quickly. Pretty sure 15grand could run a site like this.

As far as keeping the riff raff off the board by using contributors, VB gives you the ability to get rid of people regardless.

If not regular sponsors then my suggestion would be make the search function avaialble to non contributors.

Not meaning to ruffle any feathers brett, it aint about the money. but grad asked so i spoke my peace.... Ill shut up now.

EDIT: Brett my honest suggestion would be to keep the contributor status, entertain advertisers, I am sure you dont need help with this but if you do I can help you. When you get a large enough advertisers base, let the contributions phase out.

There is talk of a Fantasy section and with that the PicK Em in the Den will go there.

In defense of the Team KATT threads myself and Team KATT have brought more posters face to face in the past 2 years then ever before on this thread. For YEARS I show people talk about having TF meetup so posters could get together to meet. And every year it never happened so I took the bull by the horn and made it happen last season.

It is a sports forum not a social club because when I extend the invite for posters to join us for tailgating it is an invite to one and all. NO ONE has EVER been excluded or made to feel like they are not welcome when they show up. That includes the opposing fans as well as our own.

I have also suggested a Tailgating Section be added, but 1 thread a week with pictures about tailgating is a HUGE difference then a thread per school per coach in the span of 1 day.

It was directed to reflect middle ground, because there are people that would like to see change and some that like it just as it is. So while there will be change it wont be so much that you wont recgonize the place.

I defend and LOVE this site maybe more then I should. When I broke my leg at jump school and watched as my dreams of being a paratrooper fly out the window and watched as instead of going to Itlay get changed to Texas, I was depressed beyond anything and being away from friends and family didnt help. That is when I come across this site and it helped me get through a tough time.

That is why I have no problem devoting the time that I do to running all the fantasy sports and being a mod and helping to improve and keep this place nice. Because I know that somewhere out there there might be another solider that is homesick or going through a hard time and this just might be the place that helps him the way it helped me.

    Wow, this thread exploded quickly.

I am all for the article section. I would especially be for a similar thing like what Justin does on BR with the "Creature vs. Creature." Find someone from the opposing team to come do an "exclusive" article on this site.

By the way, I just feel the need to say that there has been way way WAY too much "drama" on this site the past week. This is a forum for LSU fans. Not a high school cheerleading squad.

Change week to a year and you've got it. And I am with you - Im for anything that creates more sports talk. I like the article idea.

This thread may be well intentioned and I am sure there are good ideas here for change(this is needed?), but apparently mainly for accommodating non-contributors. If changes are made or not made, I really won't care. How anyone that owns a computer and can't cough up $20/year is beyond my understanding. Heck you can't buy a beer and a happy meal for that. If you can't afford the $20 or won't pay it because you think the forum should be free, than you should quit this forum or start your own, or both. What is the big deal? Pay it and get all the forum has to offer, or don't and you won't. Some of you act as if this is an exorbitant fee and that is just about the funniest thing I have ever read on the internet.

I get the concept of wanting more for your $, but more for nothing? :insane:

Seems to me if this product is too expensive($20?), then there are other LSU sites to post on. And you can wade through all the childish drama that sites of that nature attract. I am always suspicious of people who get something for free, and just want more...for free.
