I would like to see Chris Garrett win the starting job in 2010

Well, I always believe in open competition for positions. You should be able to start if you win the position. However, I highly doubt that anyone will be able to win the job from JJ. I would still like to see RS utilized as some sort of hybrid RB/QB with JJ in as QB...although I'm starting to wonder if the coaching staff ever intends to get him into the game.

Now, on the O-line, something needs to change for anyone to be successful in the backfield. For that matter, I think the same for the OC.

We all saw the same game, but apparently many of us have missed something.

Yes, JJ threw several bad balls in the first quarter/first half, but HOW MANY DROPS did we have?

Ridley and Holliday combined for 16 carries and 23 yards rushing. That's right, 23 yards rushing. There's the problem. Penn State's front 7 totally stuffed our run. This was our story all year.

So, you guys can beg for an open competition at QB all you want.

I want an improved OLine, and/or a better scheme.

We had NO running game all year, regardless of who the back was. Scott never got going. KW didn't. Ridley really didn't, and neither did Holliday or RS.

If we can't run the ball 30 times for 140 or 150 yards PER GAME or more, we aren't going to win anything.

I agree. Besides it seems that it takes about 4 years to learn Crowton's playbook so no matter how good Garrett looks in the spring that will be the excuse that they use to not play him. It's sad really.

This, the first half was terrible, the light didn't come on until that drive where he threw the TD to Lafell, when he called out the protection.

JJ is an entirely different QB when he fires quickly. In the first half, he had receivers getting open immediately, and he just wouldn't get rid of it. In the second half, he threw the ball quickly and looked worlds better. I actually think that the lone bright spot was that he showed some improvement in his pocket presence. He's still got a long way to go, but I've seen him make enough good throws to realize how much better he would be if he can just make up his mind quickly. He wouldn't be all-world, but he would be a lot more effective.

I was disappointed in JJ's performance. As I watched the game, I saw JJ throw 3 balls that SHOULD have been interceptions, that the PSU secondary dropped. He was throwing into double coverage. I hope my son DVR'd the game, I want to watch it again, and I'm in Mandeville.

I agree with disappointment on the running game, that is where we lost it. Too many 3 and outs, started with unproductive runs and then it was 2nd and 10 and 3rd and 10. The PSU front 7 was impressive, but great teams handle them, and we were not a great team this year.

I know our strength coach is very good, so we should not be getting beaten physically. Coach Stud needs to get it together.

I wonder if that has something to do with his difficulty setting his foot in the first half. He threw a lot of diving balls. The weather conditions in the second half did improve and maybe they finally got used to the ground conditions, stopped thinking about it, and just played ball.

The rain/wet ball definitely affected Jefferson in the first half. Almost every ball he threw was low or at the ground. And he rarely ever throws anything low. He has the opposite problem. He usually starts off games throwing everything really high and settles down at some point. So I can give him a pass on some of those passes and near INTS. You're gonna have those when you're playing in awful conditions. And if he almost threw about 3 INTS., then Penn St.'s QB almost threw for about 6. It was just one of those games.

Now here is somebody who objectively watched the game.

There were not many throws on target yesterday. Heck even the pass to Lafell was thrown a tad too soon for the TD and was almost a wasted opportunity.

He still can't pull the trigger and what appears to be poor pass protection is simply a kid who can't read defenses properly and thus takes an extra precious second or two to decide. At that point it's too late.

Stats can be deceiving, and in this case it really is.

    I would rate his performance a C-.
