dude... to say jefferson has peaked at age 19 is about the dumbest thing i've read in a while. and that's saying something given that i've been reading this forum since people were saying rohan davey was a waste of a scholarship.

and to say he's definitely going to be a better QB next year because he's only 19 is just as dumb.

I didn't say he peaked (others did).

I said being 19 has absolutely nothing to do with it anymore. He's a bloodied SEC veteran. His age is irrelevant and needs to stop being thrown around as a reason for whatever folks are trying to make an excuse for.

Personally, I hope he ramps it up and learns to make quick reads this summer. Honestly - I'm not hopeful based on how the season ended.

You are the same person that thought we'd really move the ball in the passing game against Tech with Lee in there, right? Kidding...

    Come on...I had to...

I can't quite say that yet about Jefferson. He at least deserves a shot with an O-line and running game that isn't relatively terrible. There aren't many QBs that would have done anything special with that running attack we had this year. Or with the coordinator continuing to run the option when everyone in the world can see that LSU has trouble running it...

Jefferson still has the big issue with taking too long to throw the ball, but he hasn't been our biggest issue. The playcalling was terrible this year and the implementation of talent was even worse.

LSU has to improve the running game before any QB can really excel. We were 11th in rushing in the SEC this year. That's lower than the passing which finished 9th. We didn't even run well against the cupcakes most of the time.

I hope Garrett is great and would love to see him start if he can really improve our offense. But I think we have to fix those other issues first.

LSU Fans have a long history of not knowing what the **** they're talking about when it comes to QBs. In fact, just take a poll of LSU fans and then do the opposite of whatever the majority thinks and you're almost guaranteed to be right more than wrong.

While JJ wasnt great, he isnt a bad QB. He isnt the problem here. The problem is the garbage playcalling. We never get anything established long enough. The right players dont get the ball. Add to that the OL was pretty poor as well. They didnt hold blocks. When you cant run its not easy to pass. You need both. When LSU actually let JJ go down the field and didnt handcuff he did well towards the end of the season. If they would call the same game for JJ that they call for Lee youd see a hell of a lot better team.

Repeating the bit about being only 19 is meant to emphasize the point that he was the youngest starting QB in the conference this year. It just puts things to a slightly different perspective.

As far as being a seasoned veteran, that is true now that he's got an entire year of being the starter under his belt. The season has a lot of ups and downs, and it's much easier to learn from the whole body of work than it is each individual game. Besides, there really isn't enough time during the season to work on basic things like pocket presence and decision-making. That's what the off-season and spring are for. I imagine that game-planning occupies what little time is available during the week. So it doesn't surprise me that he didn't really improve in that area this year.

No way. Garrett sits for at least one more year. The time Jefferson did not have to hold a clipboard and learn the college game from somewhere other than behind center is what, I believe, is what has been his biggest shortcoming. You look at most successful QBs and you'll see that each had at least two years of holding the board before seeing action.

Long story short, let him watch and let him learn. His time will come.

Actually, we don't know what he is because we barely play him. Nothing is off the board when you have a guy that is that talented. They just need to put him out there and get him the ball. I got sick of hearing how he was gonna get more touches each week and then...nothing.
