Shepard isn't a QB any more guys. He's moved to WR/RB. Jefferson has to work on his release.. it's slow as crap. He's matured a bit and he plays more crisp in the 2 minute drill it seems.

I think we'll be just fine with Jefferson for now. If he keeps improving. Garrett needs snaps asap against the creampuffs though.

open competition at every position is always good for the growth of a team, but it's hard for me to believe that people can believe a 19 year old sophomore has reached his peak as qb. yes, he takes too many sacks. with that being said, every sack is not his fault. the line sucked, so the running game sucked. it's a lot easier to pass when u can run the ball effectively, and i dont think i even have to go into the playcalling. the bottom line is he improved every game, he's careful with the ball (to a fault sometimes), and he never panics, which is saying a lot for a sophomore. as he gets older he'll have more trust in the wr's to be where he expects them to be. if the o-line improves, i think he'll be one of the best qbs in the conference next year.

JJ improved markedly this season, and with a little help from his line in run/pass blocking, he will continue to improve. I like the idea of him getting a full year under his belt this year.

Put a redshirt freshman in front of a junior with 10+ starts? A freshman nobody has seen throw since high school, and although he has ideal measurables, was not the most coveted QB in the south.

    Um......no. :insane:

I can't defend JJ and his lack of ability to look off his rec or go to 2nd, 3rd looks.

He holds the ball waiting on his primary to open. He drifts to his right verses moving up in the pocket. He always wants to fall back in the pocket and tends to throw off his back foot often.

If his primary opens and he throws on rhythm he can look good.

I don't think GC is close to running his complete play book and JJ just doesn't have that thing that you want to see in your QB.

That being said I would look for a all out run at starting QB for CG. Sure he is a red shirt freshman but if he has football smarts and knows the system, can think on his feet lets go. I want to see a play maker and someone that makes plays and doesn't look to the sidelines.

We need a QB that will take over the team and the team has total faith in their QB !

    Geaux Tigers

Bring on the spring game because all the talk will start then.

On the 1st comment, how many seasons are they allowed to show some competence?
They have shown they can coach? Show me how they have shown this. We get top 5 recruiting classes and are ranked about 107 out of 120 colleges in offense? Does that option play in every game show you good coaching?
There are a lot of factors? What are they in detail. And DO NOT keep pumping that JJ is inexperienced garbage.
I think Miles does get money from Louisiana taxpayers. It IS a state university right? Even if there isn't a direct pipeline to the athletic dept, it still gets there.
I'm watching the SECCG right now & I don't see either team in Purple & Gold.

Yes, there are a lot of factors involved with our offenses' play this year. You don't want to hear about an inexperienced QB? Fine. What about the lack of a FB or blocking TE? Those are important factors that make a big difference in the offense's productivity.

Crowton coached a very successful offense to the National Championship, in case you had forgotten. And Stud was an Offensive Coordinator himself who was known as one of the best OL coaches in the country.

No. Not only is there no direct pipeline, there's no indirect pipeline either. In fact, only the opposite is true as the Athletic Department donates money to LSU each year & Miles pays taxes to the state of Louisiana.

    Couple of comments.

    1. The 19 year old thing is dead. It has no bearing on his performance. Not any more. This off-season will have a lot to say about whether JJ can step up to SEC caliber play or not.

    2. The only way I'd like to see Garrett start next year is if he'd gotten lots of PT this past season. No way I'd start a green RS Fresh again when I have a seasoned Jr who is efficient enough to protect the football.

    3. Improved OL play, a better FB, and JJ learning to make quicker reads will make next year's offense much improved. Oh, and smarter use of Russell Shepard.
