my dad's company quit offering his current plan already.

when barack claims you can keep your current plan he acts as if he is not doing everything he can to destroy your current plan.

yeah I read this yesterday and unfortunately was predictable.

Among employers with a high awareness of the health reform law, the number likely to drop health coverage for workers rises to more than 50 percent, the report predicted.

The consultant also found that at least 30 percent of employers would gain economically from dropping coverage even if they compensated employees for the change through other benefit offerings or higher salaries.

so as was known a year ago when this was shoved through, there is incentive for the private employers to drop their employees even with the cost of the penalty factored in.

this I remember reading at the wsj last year:

Our thought experiment shows how the economics of dropping existing coverage is about to become very attractive to many employers, both public and private. By 2014, there will be a mini-industry of consultants knocking on employers' doors to explain the new opportunity. And in the years after 2014, the economics just keep getting better.

The consequence of these generous subsidies will be that America's health reform may well drive many more people than projected out of employer-sponsored insurance and into the heavily subsidized federal system. Perhaps this is a miscalculation by the Congress, perhaps not. One principle of game theory is to think like your opponent; another is that there's always a larger game.

the socialist experiment continues and its failing spectacularly. Cant wait to see the effect this has on the already crippled economy once its in full-effect.

Our federal deficit is already at unsustainable levels, and most Americans understand that we can ill afford another entitlement program that adds substantially to it. But our recent health reform has created a situation where there are strong economic incentives for employers to drop health coverage altogether. The consequence will be to drive many more people than projected—and with them, much greater cost—into the reform's federally subsidized system. This will happen because the subsidies that become available to people purchasing insurance through exchanges are extraordinarily attractive.

Sure, the companies are posturing. But insurance companies aren't going to leave all that money on the table. They are going to cut better deals with the companies.

Why would they do that? The individuals are still required to buy plans. The insurance companies can collect more in premiums selling to individuals than they can selling to groups.

The Health Law insurance plans are to be offered at group rates, that's where the savings are. companies would rather cut deals with each company than one with the government.
