As emotionally distressing as it must be to throw those costly picks and get yanked, Alabama is the best D that any QB could face. It's very fortunate that he'll get to complete some passes against a team like Western Kentucky and regain his rhythm and confidence. His biggest challenge is to not play too tight (or too loose) knowing that he'll be benched for big mistakes.
Lee's biggest issue is the same issue he has had since he put on a Tiger uni. He is scared to get hit. He doesn’t like to step up into the pocket, go through his progressions and step into his throws. When he has time to throw or isn’t worried about getting hit he delivers an accurate ball, even off his back foot. But clearly in the Bama game Lee looked very uncomfortable (I Hate to say "Scared") But it’s true. I think he will be fine against WKU and maybe even Ole Miss, but I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t worried about which Lee is going to show up against a Georgia/South Carolina Defense and whichever defense we face in the BCSNCG....assuming we play in the those two.
On one of the throws, was not the snap low, dropped, he had to pick it up and get in a hurry? As for the second one, I think we went to the well too quickly after no. 1. Should have thrown a couple short. I wondered all game long what would have happened had we not had Jefferson and would have stuck with Lee. The best medicine is to start him Saturday, normal progression as all season has been, and rotate. Let him get his game back on. We will need him with a "long" season yet to go. Go Lee!
I don't agree. Lee's problem during the bama game wasn't that he was afraid to get hit, it's that there was nowhere to throw the ball initially. He is at his best when he gets rid of the ball quickly because, quite frankly, he's just not athletic enough to move around in the pocket and re-set his feet. THAT is why he did not work out against bama. With his WRs blanketed early in the play and the pocket collapsing, he didn't have the footwork to escape and make a play. So what did he do? He threw hastily and forced bad throws. It all comes down to his footwork, which has improved somewhat. But you just can't coach a guy into being athletic when it isn't in his DNA. I think too much is made over the perception that he's afraid to take a hit. I've seen him stay in the pocket and take a lick or two when his throwing motion had already begun. But I think he knows in the back of his mind that he can't move around, and that's caused him to throw ill-advised passes. That said, of COURSE he can bounce back from this. The guy has persevered and pulled himself back-up from the depths of hell. Recovering from one bad game will be quite easy for him.
The 1st int was a low snap off the ground but he picked it up and tossed it like a hot potato. We would have been better off with him taking the sack, but I honestly didnt see pressure. It wasnt just the 2 ints, he looked very uncomfortable back there.
True, but whether he is afraid to take a hit, he appears scared as hell back there. Just my view and I know Im not alone on that thought. I am just glad that he wont face another pass coverage as talented as Bama's and that this is his last season in P&G. I am over the JL vs. JJ battle 5 more games DONE
This. He's delivered some beautiful throws this season immediately before he got clobbered. The WKU pass rush should be a tad less ferocious than Bama's, so he'll have plenty of opportunity to get his groove back.
While Lee sees our fast defensive backfield everyday in practice, Bama's is the fastest group he has (or will) seen in an actual game. I think he had some trouble reading the coverage and really didn't expect the defenders to close on the receivers so fast. I don't think he was afraid of getting hit, he has taken some big hits this year and stayed in there. Just my untrained eye observation. ldskule:
