Did you see the debacle in November when there was no competition? This is much more about our retards in charge than it is about herman 100 of 100 times they will come up empty when it comes to trying to get the top guy. Too much politics and penny pinching in the end. Bama wins at all costs almost. They at least know to get out of the way and pay the best guy whatever the f he wants. We will never and I repeat never do that. Won't hurt to try I agree. But it's not going to happen.
I'm not saying Herman would be a lock to come to LSU, I'm saying it would be stupid not to approach him about coming here. Maybe he's a long shot. Maybe LSU is now the nerdy guy who is afraid to approach the hot chick at the bar because he's doesn't want to be shot down in front of his friends. Other schools with less going for them than LSU won't be afraid. I'm just saying Carpe Diem! In the words of Trump, what do ya got to lose? The idea that he is going to sit at Houston and wait for Texas job to open up is absurd. Even if Texas is his dream job, he'll go elsewhere until the job opens up. We hired Saban knowing the NFL was his dream job, doesn't mean hiring him was a bad idea.
Oh, Herman's agent will be approached all right if he hasn't already been. Along with the agents for another dozen coaches that Alleva has in his rolodex. In the end do you trust any of those bozos to make the right move?
No, but sometimes even a three-legged dog can win a race. Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson. We only need lightening to strike once.
Jimbo has everything he could ever want at FSU and he's the top dog in his conference. Coming to LSU he would have the state to himself, but would have to beat Bama just to get out of his own division. 10 months ago I didn't think it was remotely possible and I still don't. Coaches don't leave big time programs to go to other big time programs unless they get fired first or they "retire" (Urban Meyer). We need to find the next up and coming coach. Shouldn't be too hard with LSUs recruiting base. We just have to pick the right guy.
Not trying to justify the BoS' thinking, just an observation. UofA sits practically in the shadow of a beautiful Mercedes Benz plant. LSU sits in the shadow of abandoned oil wells. Its a lot easier for their guys to justify balls-to-the-wall spending in that state economy than it is here.
I don't think anyone is saying not to try, it is just likely that it would not come to fruition. He likes Houston and his family is happy there. That will be a huge factor in him moving, which means he would more likely move to a bigger school in the area, i.e. A&M or UT. It would be a stretch for him to leave an area his family is content for the cancer that is LSU administration. I say throw the checkbook at him just don't hold your breath, because he may throw it back. And I only say this because he said during an interview how much he and his family loved living in Houston.
I agree , He had his chance to leave for the SEC in South Carolina and he told them no , He dosent care about what conference he is in are the exposure . He has no reason to leave Houston , especially if the move to the Big 12 . Jimbo is the same way , he has no reason to leave Florida state . They both are the dominate schools in there state and are recruiting hotbeds . My targets would be Larry Fedora from North Carolina are P.J. Fleck from western Michigan . Young coaches who recruit at dormant schools would thrive at LSU .
All fair points. To my recollection however, every coach I have ever heard speak about their situation has spoken about how happy their family was in that town/city/region. It's a pretty simple way to generate some good will amongst the locals, and also to drive a potential offer up. He may be sincere in that statement, but that doesn't necessarily mean he wouldn't leave if someone doubled his salary and gave him a shot at the biggest stage in college FB.
