I didn't check the facts here, honestly I don't have time.
I have to get my daughter ready and off to school in a few minutes.
I would like to know what everyone thinks about this.
    Quote:---------------------------------------------------------

How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the
Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
Whether you want the 'politicians' spending
    YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
But one advertising agency did a good job of
Putting that figure into some perspective in
    One of it's releases.

    A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959..

    B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

    C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
    Living in the Stone Age..

    D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

    E.
A billion dollars ago was only
    8 hours and 20 minutes,
    At the rate our government
    Is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ..
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

    Louisiana Senator,
    Mary Landrieu (D)
    Is presently asking Congress for
    250 BILLION DOLLARS
To rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
    What does it mean?
    A.
Well... If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
    (every man, woman, and child)
    You each get $516,528.

    B.
Or... If you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

    C.
Or... If you are a family of four...
    Your family gets $2,066,012.

    Washington , D. C

    HELLO!

Misleading. Individuals got no such money. Most went to public cleanup, rebuilding the levees and destroyed infrastructure.

Untrue, many of them did. Food has been taxed since before we were a country, have you forgotten the Boston Tea Party? Tobacco has been taxed since 1794. Inheritance taxes go back to 1797. Telephone taxes go back to 1898. Liquor taxes are old, too--did you forget the "Whiskey Rebellion" of 1794. Taxes have been around for a long, long time.

    It still is.

Completely False. The National Debt in 1910 was $2,652,665,838.04

    We still do.

I think SD was trying to just point out that what going out doesn't equal what is coming in.

You are correct and I will point out that I don't think Red read :)lol:) what I said at the beginning of my post.
I asked what others thought about this email I received.
I never said I agreed with everything on there, I didn't get a chance to read everything this morning.
I will admit that I am paranoid and scared as hell that we are spending money like we are using water or something.
I do wonder how anyone in this country can support or justify the Spending policies of this administration.
I wonder just how long before the country will go bankrupt at this point.
This is real scary and I don't consider this a Dem vs Rep issue either.
I am worried about this countries standing and future when it comes to our future finances.
    That is all!

Btw, when I said Quote with a line---------------------
That is where the email started and in no way did I write it or agree with it.
I just copied and pasted it from my email account because I didn't want to link my open
    email account here.

I think you are taking this too literally.
If I may point out that the author most likely was trying to show the context of just how much money an individual would have received of the amount of money Louisiana would receive.
I was more alarmed about A thru E if those were correct.

I am very alarmed and disturbed by the new Louisiana Purchase and the special deal that Nebraska received.
States should be equal, one or two states shouldn't get more goodies than others and certainly not this much under these circumsatances.
The federal government is growing by leaps and bounds and overwhelming the states, the feds now can twist their arms and get the states to cave.
Anyone should be alarmed by what is now happening in this country.
I am not saying Obama and the Dems started this either but they sure have made it more visible than ever before.

Can we as Americans, quit blaming each other and figure out what we are going to do.
I think most would be alarmed at the spending and the growth of government over the last 9 years.
The blame game will only continue to lead to our downfall.
I'm trying to reach out to anyone who would have some of my concerns here.

I read that you didn't know if it was true. I pointed out that most of it wasn't.

Now you know what I think.

I think the real takeaway from that email is:

Americans are largely desensitized to the ridiculously large size/scale of government. Staggering numbers. If most folks understood how much of that money achieves absolutely nothing, there would be another Revolution. But they don't understand.

Guys, this stuff is not new. I worked for 8 years in resource management withing a fairly secret national intelligence program. Bad ideas got $500K just to go away. Tens of millions would not even raise eyebrows. It is incomprehensible how much money flows toward NOTHING. Absolutely nothing.

You might be seeing it in government health care right now. Government Health Care is just a piker in the world of squandering your tax dollars.

We take great pleasure in pointing out the corruptness of many foreign governments and cite such corruptness as their reason for failing. All I can say is welcome to the Beltway (loop around DC for those that have the fortune of not being familiar with that).

By the way, this cuts across parties, politicians, all of them.

    This is what scares me.
I agree 100% with your post.
If government gets richer than means the people become poorer.
