    If so, what was it called before?

    I think it's silly. Skip already has a road named after him on campus. Next they will name the Smoke Laval pitcher's mound . . .

    I agree. I mean skip was great but they've damn near named the university after him. At some point we should probably have done enough.

    I think naming the field for him is more fitting than a street, anyway. Why they didn't do that in the first place is beyond me.

    I think it's somewhat common in baseball to have "so and so" field at "such and such" stadium.

    And the only thing we'd ever name after Smoke would be the shitters.
