Prior to the season I honestly didn't think Chavis would impact AM and the aggies would be like usual, all offense but no D. I have to admit the win against Arizona State was very impressive. ESPECIALLY on the defensive side of the ball. Im aware they have some studs on defense(Garret) but I didn't think as a whole their defense would show much, but damn it Chavis has worked his magic. I now would like to beat A&M almost as bad as Bama.
If Chavis is working his magic there, then we will win the game when he calls for his defense to line up 15 yards off the ball on a critical 3rd down late in the game.
If sumlin can recruit and Chavis can coach, they'll be good. Third and chavis will always be an issue as he deemphasizes the pass rush.
I wouldn't put too much worry into it. Last year the media was slobbing the Aggie knob after they laid it to South Carolina on Thursday night. That lasted all of about three weeks. Chavis won't change that. Chavis is a good coach but not a great coach.
No doubt, A&M looks like a different team this year on defense with Chavis and although I didn't think he would get it turned around this quick, I think we all knew he would at some point.
I thought about that. Maybe there were as overrated as South Carolina was last year. Chavis is a good coach but he is not a magician.
I think this is likely the case. When you think of A&M's defense, there was nowhere to go but up. I would have been absolutely shocked had A&M not looked way better. But let's be honest, Chavis isn't working with anything close to the same talent he had at LSU. He also isn't working with the same caliber coaches and Ron Cooper and Corey Raymond more than made up for his deficiencies. Let's see how well he does against the better teams in the SEC. The teams with studs in the trenches. A&M will get exposed.
