Sorry, you responded in kind. Just hate the argument that if les won with Saban's recruits, Saban won with Shula's recruits. Anyone being honest knows that's not an apples to apples comparison. A lot of people defend Miles by employing a different metric for he and Saban. It is clear what Saban has accomplished, to try and diminish that to make Miles look better isn't honest. It is true that Miles has accomplished a lot, regardless of Saban's accomplishments.
I did not make that argument. I make the argument that all coaches must work with what they have and their failure or success is not based on the players that they inherited. If so, there would have been a drop-off when Nicks players were gone, but that did not happen. If so, Zook would have won with the talent that Spurrier left behind and Perkins would have won with the talent that Bryant left behind. I do not diminish Nick. I point out that Les' success has never been based on what Nick did previously.
I still say he is the Mark Richt of the west. Winning just enough to keep the seat cool but never winning the big game. I freaking was thinking the dawgs had a legitimate chance to win it all this year. Then freaking "gurley-gate" happened then he blows out his knee.
That's exactly the team (see point #1) and exactly my point (see point #3). Doing that well and then having a month off to prepare for the big dance only to hit the field with no apparent changes in the game plan vs. Bama from the first matchup AND to then not try anything different in the 2nd half of the NC game is inexcusable! There IS no tomorrow at that point. You have to throw the kitchen sink at it in trying to win, whether that means putting your differences aside with Lee and putting him in, or trying Shepard, or grabbing a fan out of the stands and suiting him up. At least that would have made the defeat a little more palatable.
There's a lot to be said about how a coach presents his case in pre or post game comments about what to expect or what happened after the facts. If you have ever listened to other coaches press conferences they lay out an articulate summary of the pros and cons of what just took place. Miles to me just spouts some mostly incoherence BS mutterings of someone who really doesn't have a clue about what the hell he's talking about. Listen to Freeze, Jones or even Muschamp articulate their thoughts. IMO Miles babbling is a reflection of his knowledge of the game and his ability to put together a coherence game plan. Regardless, unfortunately we are stuck with this clown for the remainder of his contract.
Some people believe his jibberish is calculated, I've always thought otherwise. And I agree with you. Can you imagine being a player and trying to determine instruction from this guy?
He's doing a stand up routine and trying to answer as little as possible at the same time. At least he left out the comedy following the Arkansas loss; he looked appropriately miserable. Other coaches try to say as little as possible to the press but few do it as well as Les.
