Alleva needs to show him that he is the boss. But Joe doesn't have the testicular fortitude to make a tough call
I've fallen off the I Love Les bandwagon. But I would think it would take more than testicular fortitude for Alleva to even consider it. I would think he would need the backing of the BOS and the TAF big ticket donors. Even if he had that support, I don't see it happening any time soon. Just my .02
Nothing is going to happen, LSU football has been way to successful for that. I am sure most of us wouldn't want to replay the 90's. I remember a coach at Nebraska that was fired for having a 9-3 season. Frank Solich or something like that. It would be insane to try and replace someone like CLM's. Good Luck finding someone who can come close to CLM's win/loss record. I have questions and issues with CLM's as much as some. But it is insane to make a change and think someone is going to come in and have the same success or better!
All depends on perspective. If you're content winning 9 or 10 games a year, then Les will probably accomplish that more times than not moving forward. If you want to compete for the SEC West, then Les is not your man.
I understand your points but I don't think you will find a coach more successful with wins vs losses in the SEC. I only mentioned 9-3 record based on Nebraska firing a coach with that record. Does anyone want to guess what happened to Nebraska football for years to come after that move? I am not sure you can find someone in the history of college football that has fired a winning coach and was able to hire one that was just as successful if not better. I know your frustrations, I feel it too! I will bet anyone a dinner that whether CLM's leaves on his own or not you will be hard pressed finding an LSU football coach have a better record in the same number of years. I do think I have watched and followed enough sports that I think I will win this bet! Of course the first thought is Nick Saban, he is the only one in all of college football and I don't believe you will get him.
What you have to remember when comparing Nebraska is that the closer it got to the 2000's the harder it was for them to recruit. When the TV deals started coming to everyone southern kids had no reason to go up north. Oklahoma is going through the same thing, as well as the B1G. When USC and Miami get all of their scholarships back they will be factors again. Don't let the superior talent fool you into thinking that a 8-4 coach is really glue that's holding LSU together. The LSU name alone scores most of the in state talent. Les simply benefited from the new times of CFB in the SEC.
We have with Les what Texas had with Mac, Ok has with Stoops, etc. he's that kind of coach. He will put multiple great seasons together and win a couple titles and hold the program together. That's about all you get, then you have Saban who is a different breed entirely. A coach like him comes along once every 30 years or so. Our problem is we have to face him every year and we keep coming up short. The championship goes thru Bama weather we like it or not. If Bama doesn't win the title, it's the team that beats them that does. The entire SEC has this burden, which is why we are probably so strong as compared to the rest of the nation. We are all building teams to beat Bama, because that is the team with the inside track on the NC. As we all build for speed and hard hitting defense we are gapping the rest of the country. That was the whole reason for the BCS to go away, because the other conferences were tired of missing out on the big check. Now with that said Nick is beatable but you better do your homework. It's no accident that both us and Bama have a bye before we play each other, because it is always the best game of the year, we just been coming up short and that is the real motivation for the hatred of Les.
I liked TigerFans post as you can see but I have to laugh at the same time. There is no better football coach at the college level than Nick Saban. Let's face it, if he didn't go to the pro's, Dolphins he would be at LSU and LSU probably would have won a total of 5 or 6 National Championships by now. If you replace CLM's there is no guarantee you will beat Nick Saban and Alabama. How many games has Alabama actually lost the last 5 years or so? How many college coaches have beaten them? Maybe one a year? They did happen to lose 2 games in a row last year but one of those was a fluke. There is also no guarantee a new coach will have the same or better record I don't care what anyone else says. LSU's biggest problem against Alabama is predictable play calling and in most cases a QB who can't throw the ball so the defense knows how one dimensional LSU is. The one exception is Mettenburger but then again we didn't win any of those games either that I remember. We have had a bit of bad luck against Alabama through the years, TO going in for a TD, some bad calls by refs, call that part what you wish.
