I don't have a problem with a coach piling it on. Our coach has been known to let back-ups get late scores, and I like it. Style points matter. If a team can't keep up on the field, that's really their problem. That being said, the starting offense for SC was woeful.
Yeah but last night he had no time to "not care". He had no choice but to keep getting his qb some quality reps because Beecher looked like a middle school quarterback.
I don't know how many "quality reps" Chris Smelley needed, they scored 3/4 touchdowns in the fourth quarter with Smelley completing 5/5 passes. If he really needed that many reps why wasn't he in right after half-time when Beecher was choking? (Threw 3 interceptions in the first half) Personally, I think Spurrier was padding stats but that's an opinion; you can call it quality reps, I'll stick with classless. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=282412579
smelley threw five picks in the their scrimmage. obviously they wanted to make sure the game wasnt a fluke and let his terrible offense get some work. he did run the score up, but it was to make his team better, not to stick it to the wuffies.
Sorry, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with what USCe did last night. One thing...the final score was only 34-0....I can throw out 50+ games that will be worst than that this year. Another thing, style points count and SC needs all the style points they can get. Not to mention the all ready said quality reps the back up were getting. If you follow at all....Smelly did not start the season as the #1 QB and has been having some major problems these last couple of years. Oh BTW...I promise we beat a time by 40+ points this season.
Quality reps meaning live game situations where he has full access to the playbook and not turning and handing off or taking a knee. Live action is next to impossible to duplicate and the experience is priceless.
I mean, I guess I see where ya'll are coming from. I think the reason I am feeling bad for NC is that they were showing real heart in the first half and obviously they had lost a lot of the drive they were showing in the second; the defense just gave up. Also, their starting quarterback got rattled pretty bad. Looking from the viewpoint ya'll are saying about how Smelley was doing bad in scrimmages (I don't study USC that much) then I can understand and I guess its kind of hypocritical of me after the beating we put on VT last year.
