You're probably right about it being a trick play. Miles' post game comments about the play not working where he responds with "not even close", in Miles talk confirms what your saying. Miles is saying that we had a want to have a play that would give us an opportunity to move the chains. What you think you saw isn't close to what you really saw.

This is what it is suppose to be. When the game that eventually became baseball turn up on the battle fields of the civil war. it was to breath some light hearted friendship into AA dreary business.
