He has been invited here for another visit this weekend... If LSU doesn't want this guy, like some of you said, it sure seems liek they wouldn't waste their time bringing him in...
Maybe you're right... I still just feel that Alex Cate will already be on campus (since he is an early high school graduate) before Tebow even makes up his mind as to where he wants to be.... LSU might very well want Tebow, but I think Cate will make their minds up for them (or get Miles to sign 2 QB's instead of 1 like he planned on).... unless, of course, Tebow wants to sign his LOI super early? Because, IMO, you DON'T deny a "sure thing" (Alex Cate being enrolled in time for the Spring semester IS about as sure a thing as you can have in recruiting) for the possibility of signing someone whos better. --We all saw what happened to Texas last season when they were only looking at taking 2 QB's and started laying off of their 3rd choice but ended up with only 1 QB (Colt McCoy) after RP picked us instead (by the time Texas "knew" anything was less than in their favor to land RP, it was too late, their 3rd QB had already made his decision to sign with Mizzou).
Of course LSU wants Tebow, he is a very highly rated QB that every team in the nation would like to have. However Cate is rated close behind him and is a great pick up with or without Tebow.
Tebow likes Jimbo, but we're not a serious player for Tim. He's got an ESPN crew following him on all his visits for a documentary, it would be boring if he just went to all the UF games. It's not like you're gonna turn down a 5* player if he wants to visit, but the coaching staff wants here, he is our guy.
Another point about Tebow. Someone mentioned that Cate will be a early graduate from high school. Well so will Tebow. He will make his decision on Dec.14th and enroll in the school the next semester.
I would not be disappointed with Tebow, but I truly think we have no shot at him...and even if we did, I'd rather have Alex Cate. Alex's demeanor and posture just screams 'intagibles'..and damn, he's already running our offense. What a unique position he is in, an ex QB for a dad, a dad for a lifelong position coach, his dad for an OC who changes his entire school's offense to match what his son is going to run, and on top of that - the precision and efficiency with which he is running it. That is impressive no matter how you slice it.
First of all it is a bit misleading to say that WE (LSU) invited Tebow for this weekend for a visit when we are playing a D1AA team. The "official" visits LSU sets up are usually centered around 1 or 2 big weekends when we are playing big games against known and ranked teams. Games where there is a buzz on campus in BR and surrounding areas and when TS is rocking and there are no local entrepreneurs standing outside selling tickets. Tebow was here for an unofficial visit several weeks ago for one of those games. I am sure at that point we "invited" him to come on an official but trust me this was not the week LSU would have chosen and why can't Tebow come another week? The fact here is that he is going to the Mich/Oh State game and the Bama/Aub game and this was the only week he could "fit" LSU in his schedule. Are we interested in Tebow, sure we are, but as been posted and reported on the Scout and Rivals site, we are truly looking for only 1 QB and have Cate (who is a very very good prospect by the way) already as a commit. Further it has been reported on those recruiting sites that while Tebow was on our list it was Tebow who contacted Jimbo and said he had an interest in LSU and wanted to learn more about the program, the campus, school etc. Jimbo is obviously a draw for him and there are doubts at this point about Jimbo's future at LSU beyond this year. So as to the question do we "want" him, well you can never have too many good football players on your roster, but with the needs we have at OL, LB and DB I don't see how we sign 2 QB's in this class UNLESS the staff knows something that we don't about the future status of the 3 "big" QB's on our roster. Finally the recruiting experts who do this for a living have Tebow going to Bama or UF with Michigan in the mix with all 3 ahead of LSU. So I would guess the interest, that is the level of interest at this point is about mutual. Both LSU and Tebow look at each other as the beer goggle girl at closing time. :geauxtige
Tebow has been talking on the phone with Tim Hawthorn (best HS WR in Alabama) and Hawthorn has been hinting around a lot on how he is going to pick the Tide. Looks like Tebow is recruiting who he's going to be throwing the ball to...
yeah the same thing was said with RP last year but we did not end up with Rouse or Bennett. He might be trying to get Hawthorn to go to FL.
