B.S. Stats are great for telling you what happened. LSU held Cam Newton to 70 yrds rushing in the first half. He only had two runs of 10 or more in the first half, a 10 yrd run and a 29 yrd run. Lots of 1,2, and 3 yrders. If they would've held up the same for the second half, he would've only rushed for 140 yrds. Granted, most RBs would luv to rush for 140 yrds, but 140 is considerably less than the 216 he gained. Newton broke for 4 - 10+ yard runs in the 2nd half, with three of them comming later in the game, along with a 9 and 7 yrder. I think this is where the fatigue began to set in. ..... fatigue of playing .. and the fatigue of spirit that your fricken offense is worthless. The second half is where everyting fell apart. Cam rushed for 146 yrds in the second half, 49 of which came on his very first run in the third quarter. For that point, I can't blame the offense/defense tired angle. Newton should have never broke a 49 yrder on his first run of the third .. that was purely the defenses fault. Interestingly, it was Newton's 49 yrder and McCalebs 70 yrder that won the game.
Chavis should have done whatever he needed to do to take away their run game and keep Newton in the pocket and throw the ball because I don't think he is a good pocket passer.
And who exactly was the coach of that dominant team? Miles bashers like to say things like "LSU is no longer a dominant team" or "We're a second tier SEC tem under Miles". But when you ask them to give examples of the last time we were a dominant team or a 1st tier SEC team they say: ....wait for it.... When Miles was coach in 2007! William Faulkner described this phenomenon perfectly: Let that one bounce around your heads for a while. Have a good day!
I don't think it is the coaching or the talent. It was a lapse in Execution!!! - JJ and RR's execution in the first drive that led to the INT that resulted in 7 points. - The defenses execution at the beginning of the 2nd half, letting Newton run for a 49 yard TD on the first series, and the 70 yarder McCalleb. Take away these three lapse's in execution, and LSU could have won that game. - if the O-line would have executed better, we may have still won the game, .. but they folded.
two plays that accounted for 120 yards. Newton set up both. Arburn is a great team with one very exceptional player.
