7:51 left in the game. We had the ball at our own 40 and the score was tied at 17.

As bad as it all looked (and was), all we needed at that point was 1 of those championship drives:

8-10 plays, 60 yards, 4-5 mintues chewed off the clock and 7 points..... and we win.

I agree with that. the offense let us down way more than the defense - if the O could have moved the ball any the second half, I think we win that game - despite their incredible numbers. Field position was WAY in our favor - with the punting game - and them going for it on 4th and not getting it. We had great field position many timesand could not capitalize. We could not move the ball the second half at all, except for the trick play. That surprised me given the fact the way aubs D has played this year.

    THIS .....

Ran the numbers. In the first half ....

    Auburn put up 200 yrds
    LSU put up 183 yrds.

    Score Tied 10-10

    In the second half .....

    Auburn put up 322 yrds
LSU put up 80 yrds ...... 80 puny little yrds !!!!!!!!!!

5 of the 7 drives in the second half were under 10 yrds, and 2 of them were negative yardage.

Nobody should fault our defense for having to play the entire 2nd half and getting gassed. The Offense let them down big time. Even if the Offense would have drove the ball for 8-12 plays or so and not scored, it would have eaten up the clock and given the D a rest,

Our OC dropped the ball big time here. We should have come out passing .. and passing a lot. Short 5 to 10 yard routes that can't be defended easily. Move the ball .. and throw in a run occassionally to keep the Defense off balance.

The problem ... don't expect much to change!!! Miles will continue to think this team can run without a pass attack .. and as was proven this past weekend ... ain't gonna happen.

Great job running those #'s. The stats are quite telling, and blame has to be placed on GC. Granted, AU's defensemay have adjusted to what was working for us in the first half; however, it is GC's responsibility to somehow counter that. I know this has been debated in other threads -- is it really our QB's, or is it GC? If it's a combination of both, the OC gets paid the big bucks to come up with a game plan or to be able to make second half adjustments.

theres an old school rap song by PUBLIC ENEMY called DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE..the problem with some of you fans is that you buy into everthing that you see on tv,everything that you hear on the radio, and everything that you read on the internet...im not suggesting that LSU doesnt have a very good defense....but if you really thought that they would stop cam newton, you were in for a rude awakening....stats are good for winning awards, trophies, winning the heisman, going to the pro bowl and being inducted into the HOF...it has very little to do with winning football games week in and week out......

ask dan marino if he would prefer to keep his stats or have a superbowl ring...he has went down as one of the greatest qbs to never win the big game.....but..HE HAS HIS STATS...

Before the season started, there was a debate on whether or not our defensive line was too light. I was one that felt we were on the small side. However, I made the comment that it could work if we played an aggressive style that took advantage of our speed. We basically have the same problems that the Colts' defense has. Our defense is fine when playing with a lead and they can be aggressive. When we play against teams with a powerful running attack, our defense can get pushed around. Because our offense is so bad, these teams will likely take an early lead and won't be forced into throwing the ball against us. Our defense is not suited to play from behind.

I too was on the receiving end of comments like those, both in the stadium during the game and walking to the car after. I have no problem with people cheering for their team & a win, but I'm not ok with people telling me I should have stayed home to watch the game. That comment was made after returning from consessions stand and was only directed at me, not my Auburn friend who was with me...go figure.

The loss of Sam Montgomery hurt worse than I thought it would. When Nevis gets double and triple teamed someone else on the front needs to make a play and unfortunately no one did.

and what I don't understand about the offense, if you just have to throw the ball, with the pressure Auburn was getting, why not slip a few screens in there? If anyone watched the Saints game yesterday, the play that seemed to be getting more yards than any other was when Ladell Betts would chip a block and then turnaround and catch a screen pass. Man, we should have been running that play.

Here's my opinion. If you can't block someone with one man, send two. That goes for either side of ball. You can't always win with speed and finesse. I keep saying the same thing over and over since saturday. Some times the team who punches the other one first and harder wins. We never counter punched and we never threw any hard punches at newton. He should have left with 200 yards rushing and a blackeye and a headache. That never happened.
I trust our corners. I say stack the box and let the corners do their job. If, and i stress if, they beat our corners, we send help. We were losing the physical war in the trenches, send more troops. I felt we allowed them to stick to their game plan by not adjusting ours. The only crucial throw newton was forced to make, he threw it horribly.
I'm not a coach either, i don't have the answers. This is what it looked like to me. We have the kind of talent that rates a certain trust. If you can't leave pat pete on an island in man, he isn't as good as i thought he was. I know he is that good though. It seemed so simple from where i was.

When were we once a dominant team?

I'd like to hear your description on that with very specific examples. In both of our BCS Championship seasons, LSU allegedly "backed in" to the title games.
