was it recruiting or development? because most of those QBs came in fairly highly rated. Met was developed elsewhere, the rest were developed here. did we really “miss” on every single one of them? or did we just do a horrendous job coaching them? i mean even Marcus Randal was serviceable when Jimbo was OC. you telling me that nobody since then was at least OK? got to be more to it than just being wrong on who to give a scholly.
I wonder the same thing, Nootch. JJ was ranked in the top 10 in the nation...after those elite QB camps. As the Crowton flies...
i do too, but let’s not act like anyone since him set the world on fire either. and I don’t blame Miles 100% either as being the cause. I just don’t think he knew how to fix it. because think of our offenses under different OCs since he’s been here. other than jimbo, they’ve all been pretty bad, but they’ve been different kinds of bad depending on the OC. with Jimbo, it was the bubble screen (even with Saban here) but at least we had consistent QB play. with Crowton, it was the short side option. with Stud it was straight power run handoffs. with Cam it was the toss dive/lead. now with Canada it’s the jet sweep (without Miles telling him to run it constantly). Canada gets time like the others did to try to develop his system. but what i’ve seen over the last 17 years or so is a team that for some reason can’t hit on the right offensive mix. Jimbo was by far the best of the bunch. But even under Saban (and face it, Saban here was no where near what he would ultimately become) he was stubborn and didn’t evolve much. the rest have been a bunch of OCs trying like hell to make something work that just wasn’t. Miles deservedly takes the fall because he was the guy getting paid the big money to make something work and he couldn’t get it done.
