I like him. I don't care that he flubs a few plays a game, miscalls players and has brain farts. He's the Voice of the Tigers. I can pick his voice out from radio static through a cup with a string attached to it. And that means the Tigers are coming.
Heck, I was watching the game on Tigervision and couldn't figure out if he made it. It was 4th and a bunch (like 10 yards) and they only made a yard or two on the fake but the whole La Tech sideline was high fiving each other so I thought something screwy happened. The Tigervision announcers were quite deficient as well.
Ferguson? I sort of remember him, I think. When did he retire? I went to the games as a kid and took in all the sites in the student section. I really didn't care who won that game at a younger age so didn't really listen to the radio until i was a teen in the mid 80s. I was to busy watching the girls in the student section. My brother was a student and I was his guest. That was great. I have so many stories to tell. I can't believe my Mom actually let me go with him.
The anouncer in the stadium, does anyone know his name? I like that guy. When LSU wins he says the score about 50 times befor he sighns off. That is great. Oh, and "First Down for the Tigerrrrsssss!" You have to love that. I don't know who that guy is but I feel like I know him.
Living in NE Florida I get to listen to both Florida and Georgia on the radio and I can tell you their announcers are not much better. I'd much rather listen to Jim Hawthorne anyday. I grew up in BR listening to many Tiger games on the radio in the '60's and '70's and loved listening to John Ferguson. I recently ran across an elderly gentleman here in Jacksonville wearing a LSU shirt. I went up and introduced myself and asked him whereabouts in La he was from. He responded that he was from Florida, but became an LSU fan by being a fan of John Ferguson. He loved his broadcasts and would listen to LSU just to hear him announce the games. John Ferguson was definitely a one of a kind and will be the voice of LSU always to me.
