    Here's my take on this, for what it's worth...

    First of all, I personally don't care if a school claims 23 championships, spread out over 7 different seasons. To each his own. It just doesn't phase me one way of the other.

    In reagards to the whole USC/LSU 2003 debate, to me it would be ludicrous to assume that you could participate in an LSU fan forum, and be surprised/upset that the vast majority of posters (most of whom happen to be LSU fans), felt slighted, disrespected, etc. over USC's AP championship that year.

    Likewise, it would be crazy to assume that you could visit a USC fan forum, and not find the majority of posters there (most of whom would happen to be USC fans) felt that they absolutely deserved the recognition that they received as AP champions that year.

    Say what you want, but both forums would have the same sentiment if the situation was reversed.

    At the end of the day, does it really matter what other people think or say. I have to agree w/ one comment that John made - if you're secure w/ the fact that your team was the champion that year, then it shouldn't matter what anybody else thinks or says. It apparantly had no effect on recruiting, or anything else except for maybe some ego damage.

    I agree with John on this. As much as I hate that a split championship is recognized for 03', it is what it is. In our minds it wasn't a split, but in reality it is.

    1. Why is it that every other championship since the BCS goes to the BCS game winner except for 2003? USC had every opportunity to amass BCS points and they fell short of getting into the BCS game. Tough chit, dudes! Auburn feels your pain.

    2. If there is a championship game, the National Champion is the winner of the championship game. No crystal football--no championship.

    3. Teams who finished #1 on some poll are teams that finish #1 on some poll. We have more #1 poll rankings than USC, anyway.

    No, in reality ESPN tells us that it's a split. Common sense says it isn't, as Red has elaborated on.

    Reality = what's on record

    You don't have to accept it and you don't have to like it, but it is what it is. It will go down as a split National title. I don't like it either but the sooner you come to grips with that, the better off you'll be.

    I know that the Giants won the Superbowl but I didn't like the outcome. I don't think that the NFL playoff system is good enough to guarantee that the two best teams both play each other in the Superbowl.

    What if the two best teams are in the same conference?

    Because of this I'm declaring that the Cowboys are the split champions. It doesn't matter if they didn't make it to the actual championship game because they didn't do what they had to within the agreed upon rules.

    If you don't agree with me you are a bad sport. :dis:

    I know..I know...it's not the same thing.

    Wait...yes it is!
