I am seriously tired of teams claiming they have championships

It really gets on my nerves that teams claim national championships when they didnt win any of the major polls...

does anyone else feel this way?

 

No. I don't think about it at all, let them believe what they want on college football, politics, religion, whatever. I know LSU has two BCS trophies from the last five years and I focus on that. Plus the polls are a joke to me anyway.

 

I think Auburn deserved a chance to play for the NC in 2004 so I don't mind that they gave themselves NC rings.

actually the one that really bothers me is Ole Miss... they have those things permanantly affixed to their stadium claiming like 4...

usually when teams harp on a strong tradition, it means that they have nothing to brag about in the present, so it doesn't bother me the least bit

 

Ole Miss was the first school that came to mind when I started reading your first post. I believe they have three banners hanging. In reality, I think most sources only recognize 1 for the Rebels.

 

People can claim whatever they want. But unless they have one of these :crystal: they really have no leg to stand on.

 

Well, technically speaking, none of them have a leg to stand upon because the NCAA doesn't recognize a national champion.

That being said, the BCS Championship is no more or no less valid than the widely recognized standard championships like the AP Championship (prior to the BCS only). In the end, even the BCS uses highly subjective polls that are littered with bias ...... but it's better than nothing.

Where it gets a bit fuzzy are the the off-brand championships that were awarded by numerous publications prior to the AP/UPI becoming a nationally recognized standard.
