Guys: We got what we deserved at Florida. We were disrespectfull and didnt use good judgement in talking about our opponent so it backfired on us. Bottom line is Fla. had the better team this night. If we are able to get our house in order we might just have another chance at them. All of our goals are still in front of us and in our control. I dont know about a NC because lets face it the BCS is going to be a quagmire this year. But to play in the SEC CG is still in our hands. Our defense gameplan sucks. I dont know how to put it any plainer than that. We are the most passive defense i have seen at LSU in a long time.. There is no adjustment s to what the other team is doing and dictating to the offense what they can do. Even in our wins our defense has been suspect. There is too much talent there to be letting other offenses move the ball at will. Coach Miles may be forced to make some Tubberville type choices later in the season unless we start using a more aggressive approach. Not sure either of these guys running it has enough knowledge to scheme the SEC offenses. I thought defense would be the strong part of our team until we could get some playing time for our young qb's. I picked this team to go 9-3 before the season and i still think that is about right . But unless our defense shows me more against quality teams there is a possibility of worst case losing to SC,Ga.,Ole Miss,Bama and finishing 7-5. That is worst case but possible because every one of those teams is capaple of beating us. Hopefully our defense is better than they showed last night. Lets shrug it off and get ready for a decent SC team. Les its time to get these boys ready mentally to come out and play 60 minutes of football. Less talking and more performance. Let our talking be on the field with our play instead of in the newspapers and online. A couple of positives from the game is i thought Jarrett Lee showed some poise and i really liked the short passing game we started using because it got all our receivers in the game and proved we could do it . We never gave up and the team played hard at least. ( Not Smart but hard). We can be a really good team if we can get the defense playing better . Hopefully we can start getting a few turnovers that will help turn field position. Last years team was great at causing turnovers but this years team not so much. I think causing turnovers comes with playing aggressive. I know after a loss it is easier to point fingers and i believe our team knows it can perform better than it did last night. Maybe SC is where we prove it next week..
The defense has been suspect all season so I don't expect that halfway through they will all of a sudden make a complete turnaround. My question is this. Is the talent on the defensive side of the ball not what we think or is it coaching? It's one of the two.
Or both? LSU has been average in pass rushing (and that's being generous) for two seasons now. Our LBs have been average as well. Nickel and dime backs - lots of potential, but I'm not sure they're not a bit below average in execution. Safeties and corners look pretty good, surprisingly (CB, I mean). But the biggest shocker for me is the inability to routinely and quickly pressure the QB. In my judgement, the tackles have been stout, but the ends have not gotten the job done. And some of that is probably communication and scheme, but much of it is probably too much hype preseason. My new recruiting worry and "reload" worry for next year is DE. Alem showed some promise against MSU, but he wasn't very effective last night.
Our defensive game plan was horrible last night but they did do one thing right. They didn't let Tebow do the jump pass against us.
Rushing four or five just doesn't get it done with the personnel group we have. If our LB's and Nickel/Dime Backs can't cover, then send them up the middle. I'm no professional and EVEN I can see that.
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but: I think Tyson Jackson is overrated. He did not step up when Dorsey was half crippled last year like I thought he would. It doen't appear that he has stepped in and assumed the "bad @$$ mofo" role that I thought he would this year. Without Francois in the game, I saw little/nothing from TJ. I truly think he is a good #2 guy, but not a #1.
This is the thread that needs attention. The defense is the problem, not QB play. We need a name brand DC who can coach up technique, and have a better scheme. You have to be able bring pressure and teach better angles. The defense has alot of problems including talking crap when you have no buisiness doing so. The players need discipline and motivation and I lay that problem square on the coaches head!
he doesn't have to be a name brand. Muschamp wasn't before coaching here. We need a guy that will bring the attitude back. In previous years, when we took the field, we KNEW we were the better team, and we were going to prove it to you. We were going to come at you and punch you in the mouth on every snap. If you got up, we would hit you again. And even IF you won the game, you were going to know you was just in one hell of a dogfight. This team hasn't displayed that swagger in the last 2 games. Moo U wan't good enough to make us pay for it, but Florida was.
