I haven't been posting here long enough for any of you to believe me, but I was never a Saban guy. I used to make the comment that he was the smuggest person I had ever seen. Aside from that, a lot of people in this state made this guy out to be Lombardi. Why? Cause LSU won a NC with him. I am not stupid, I know you have to be a good coach to win, but regardless of what anyone thinks it is more about the players. Ask Weiss how it is without a Quinn or Brady. Spurrier without FLa. speed. Saban got way to much credit, how about giving some props to our 2 best recruiters that year Clayton and Spears. To Saban's credit he will bring a good class in this year. The media has made him out to be the "sexy" coach in football. Watch out next year, recruiting will fall off, and Bama will be OK St., Mich. St. of the south. He is a good coach, probably not even one of the top 20 coaches. Come on though who really knows what makes a good coach, is it X's and O's, or is it a great leader. I think Miles is a great leader but not an X's and O's guy.
Weiss is in his third year so he should be benefitting from his great recruiting. If he doesn't "Have" the players, it's partly his blame too. If Miles doesn't know X's and O's, he's surely dotting his I's and crossing his T's. Saban lost to LA Monroe......no excuses.
Saban proved yet again what Ive been saying on this forum since I joined, HE'S NOT A GOOD COACH! And don't give me that "those aren't his players". I don't care whose players they are, Bama should NEVER lose to ULM. Saban will give you 3-6 losses every year like he did at LSU. If he gets lucky and has a freak defense every once in a while, he might win a title.
I cannot understand why we keep talking about this loser. He is a mediocre coach and that's that. Nothing to see here, move along. Good luck to bama in the douche bowl. Please let's make this the last thread dedicated to the "has been".
Saban never should have been publicly critical of a few of his players who are not athletically up to his standards. It doesn't take much for student athletes to resent a coach who is telling the media that his stable is inadequate. Spurrier also had to eat a few of his words when he was critical of the university for the recruiting problems he had. Inadvertently, he put down a few of his players by saying that his team was not talented enough yet at key positions. It didn't take long for some of his players to put two and two together. Saban is now faced with the prospect of not going to a decent bowl game. Things could get ugly when the 'Bama fans have to book tickets to go to Idaho or wherever...
You have a better chance of no more Miles to Michigan threads over the next month. Ain't gonna happen. But you're right, Im done with that piece of crap too.
But does Saban really think that ULM had just as talented players or does anybody think that? Come on, it Monroe, Bama is definitely more talented at each position. It wasn't a talent issue it was a preparation, player execution, and lack of motivation issue. Saban will drop a game he shouldn't drop every year just as he did at LSU. It's somewhat understandable if it is against a mediocre SEC team but not to a Monroe team.
Anyone who thinks Nick is not a good coach isn't paying careful attention. He is a good coach and a good recruiter, too. What he's not is the best coach that ever lived. What he's not is the only good coach out there. True, Nick is smug, egotistical, somewhat devious, and doesn't make a lot of friends, but that doesn't mean he's a bad coach. In fact it describes a lot of very good coaches, . . . like Spurrier. It remains to be seen if Nick can repeat his fabulous success at LSU. I think the chances are less than 50%, but it ain't like he's going to post losing seasons.
Saban is not a mediocre or a bad coach. He is one of the best in the country. He is also an outstanding recruiter. And don't give me the bit about how he had little to do with LSU winning the NC. Sure the players were important, but who recruited and coached them? The fact that there is so much anger about him going to Alabama should be telling you guys something. Would we have been upset if Curley Hallman had left LSU for Bama. Heck no. Because Hallman did a lousy job as HC when he was at LSU. The very reason we are upset with Saban going to Tuscaloosa is because he is such an effective coach. You think he is overrated? Just keep watching Bama football for the next couple of years. He's going to rebuild that program. But, oh yea. It won't because of him. It will be because of the players. Keep believing that.
