Nick Saban returning to college football was bad enough; returning to coach at Bama was the absolute worst thing that could have happened to Les Miles. From here on out, many fans are going to judge LSU's success by comparing it to Bama's. And as it stands now it's not a favorable comparison for LSU.

The "coaching up" issue is a good question. For all the talent we have at most skill positions, we don't have much talent up front. We've lost a LOT of O-linemen from attrition and expulsion. For reasons I can't explain we don't seem to have DEs with any speed to cause disruption in the backfield. The point is that for all the talent we have at WR, LB, and the secondary, all that doesn't mean much when LSU is continually losing the battle in the trenches. Why we're in this position is anyone's guess. We all know the reason for the QB issues and its initials is RP.

Miles is clearly not a coach who likes to change game plans in midstream. But the Auburn game is crucial in seeing if any adjustments are made, whether Shep will get those 10-12 touches per game regardless of whether it appears in the script.

For those who want to see 4-year starters out there at every position, I'd love to see it too, along with a billion dollars next to my bed. Given what we have to work with, can Miles make effective adjustments? Think of what Paul Mainieri did with our NC baseball team. He realized midseason that the team wasn't playing to its full capability, so he made personnel adjustments. And yes, that meant actually playing talented freshmen when the veterans weren't getting the job done.

I am 100% behind CLM and happen to think very highly of him, thus my intent is not to bash him, but is he capable of doing this? Playing talented freshman when veterans are not getting the job done?

    Well

I can see this is a thoughtful board and we all want our Tigers to be the very best we can be.

I must say I am surprised to see a old Big Ten Bo guy let his line play fall off.

It's true the # 1 problem we have this year is the fall off in the DL and OL!

We are seeing the young guys get worked in and you can only hope they will get better quick!

I hate hearing all the Bama talk because I don't care what they are doing.

The other thing I HATE is when Tiger fans try to take away from this Staff and what They did to win the 07 BCS!!!

I love how we recruit and I love the character of the Staff and the Team!

It's Auburn week but today I am a GameCock Fan!!!

Beat Auburn Beat Tulane Beat Bama!!! After that the sky is the limit!!!

    Geaux Tigers!

I am thrilled to see a positive post and a positive attitude here! Sometimes a loss gets everyone so riled up that it is easy to forget how lucky we are to have a winning team! :geaux: :eek:ldskule:

The coaches seem to want Shep to play strictly at QB right now. Jefferson's production is inconsistent, and takes way too many sacks. Shep isn't ready to take on the full load of the position, so use him as a change of pace. If Jefferson takes a coverage sack on 1st down, let Shep come in on the next play and get some positive yards. Let JJ regain his composure, and let him come back in on 3rd down with the designed play. I think what people are upset about is that Shep has proven to be a big threat every time the ball is in his hands, yet we didn't use that ability at all against Florida when we had a flustered, confused QB.

FWIW, I think Les will find a way to work Shep into the offense more, but who knows how much. Another question is whether Randle sees more PT.

I'm not even slightly happy with the offensive play and play calling. However as it stands Les Miles has a National Championship and SEC Championship while Saban and Bama have none over the same period. Yes Bama looks stronger right this second but that doesn't mean it will last more than another few seconds. I'll take LSU the last few years over Bama the last few any day and so would Bama fans. No one team is going to rule the west forever. It will be up and down with a few teams battling it out each year. You might be ready to bow down and kiss Saban/Bama's a$$, but I'm not and I bet Miles isn't either.

All that comes into play in deciding which players to recruit and the general attitude of your team and directly is the responsibility of the head coach, IMO.

Those damn voters dropped us to 10... err... yeah. No. Stop complaining about the polls. Let's worry about on the field performance. Our offense is not good enough at this point to consider us a top 5 team, in my opinion. By the end of the season, who knows (don't have a lot of faith in the way we're handling the QB position these past 1.5 years).

Not having the players, for whatever reason, falls on Miles. He recruited the players that did something to warrant their removal from the team. A little falls on the 18-22 year olds, but the majority goes on the guy who decided to choose them over all others in the first place. Injuries are a different matter, but I wouldn't say injury is the major cause of our problems.

Randle, Shepard and Ford not seeing much of the field confirms what has been said about Miles all these years. He doesn't like to play freshmen.

Even with a struggling offense the likes we have not seen since 2004.

    Proof is in the pudding.

Turn what around? A team everyone expected to go 9-3 or 10-2, at best, is 5-1 and #10 nationally with it's only loss being a competitive battle with #1.

The team is not the problem. The problem is unreasonable expectations.
